Pokémon‘s 30-year anniversary has been packed with several incredible announcements so far, including the exciting reveal for Pokémon Winds & Waves, which will officially launch in 2027. Beyond the next mainline game reveal, Pokémon confirmed a busy slate of releases, with Pokémon Pokopia arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 back in March and Pokémon Champions releasing in April.
Longtime fans also have the re-releases of Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch to enjoy, alongside Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness joining the Nintendo GameCube Classics library. The franchise’s trading card game is also receiving a special 30th anniversary expansion in September, while ongoing titles like Pokémon GO, Pokémon TCG Pocket, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon UNITE are all celebrating the milestone with limited-time events and exclusive content.
However, in one newly announced and highly-anticipated 30th anniversary collab, one of the most unique Pokémon is getting an official redesign, with a new Rayquaza look unlike anything we’ve seen before (via The Gamer).
Thanks to a new Pokémon collaboration, the franchise is getting a fresh slate of new sneakers with Adidas’s upcoming 30th Anniversary line. The Adidas Originals Pokemon line features 12 new shoe designs based off of iconic ‘Mon from across the franchise, with Rayquaza getting an incredible rework like we’ve never seen before in sneaker form, shown here:
The Pokémon x adidas Originals 30th Anniversary collection features 12 Pokemon-inspired sneakers with designs based on Pikachu, Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Mewtwo, and Rayquaza. Aside from Rayquaza’s unique set, standout pairs include the fuzzy Pikachu Superstars and Pro Models, a winged Charizard Superstar, lavender Mewtwo Sambas and ZX 8000s, and a slick new take on Gengar.
Every pair includes Pokémon-themed details like character artwork and Poké Ball lace charms, while the full collection is slated for a global release in September 2026 via Adidas and select retailers. Retail prices are expected to range from $110 to $180, though a handful of models have yet to receive official pricing.
Since debuting in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire in 2002, Rayquaza hasn’t seen many major variations to its original serpentine dragon design, with subtle alterations focused in each generation’s artwork. Its biggest redesign arrived in Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire with Mega Rayquaza, adding glowing yellow streamers, expanded head crests, and ornate ring-like markings inspired by ancient mythology.
Alongside its iconic emerald-green appearance, Rayquaza’s striking black-and-gold Shiny form has become one of Pokémon’s most recognizable alternate designs, appearing regularly as a standout across newer games, anime, merch, and promotional artwork. However, this new Adidas Rayquaza design is one that is sure to sell out fast and is a sleek new take on the iconic dragon Pokémon.
