Star Warshas set up Ewan McGregor’s long-awaited return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Since the legacy character’s titular turn in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series, the actor has been vocal about his willingness to reprise his role in the galaxy far, far away. McGregor, who shared the small screen with prequel trilogy co-star Hayden Christensen, has continued to campaign for Disney and Lucasfilm to greenlight a second season.
According to McGregor, there are plenty of Obi-Wan-centric stories left to tell between the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which he encounters Qui-Gon Jinn’s Force Ghost in the Tatooine desert, and the transition into Alec Guinness’ portrayal in the original Star Wars movie, later retitled A New Hope. He’s right, of course. Though we know that Obi-Wan eventually meets the Jedi Ezra Bridger and kills his arch-enemy Maul on Tatooine, as shown in Star Wars Rebels, there’s plenty of time unaccounted for, as well.
Unfortunately for both McGregor and eager Star Wars fans, it doesn’t look like Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 will happen anytime soon, if ever. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the star said that “there seems to be no — I don’t know of any — progress in that direction, but I would like to think that there might be… I mean, there’s got to be a few good stories left to tell.”
However, while McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 dreams might not come true any time soon, that doesn’t mean we’ll never see his version of the noble Jedi on screen again. It could even happen as soon as next year.
Ahsoka Season 2’s Trailer Sets Up Obi-Wan’s Clone Wars-Era Return

At this year’s D23 showcase, Star Wars finally revealed the trailer for Ahsoka season 2. Due for release on January 20, 2027, three-and-a-half years after season 1 premiered on the streamer, the footage reveals plenty of New Republic vs. Imperial Remnant action as well as Ahsoka Tano and Sabine’s adventures on Peridea in Star Wars’ secondary galaxy. Most prominently, however, the trailer reveals Ahsoka’s continued interactions with her former Master, as Hayden Christensen reprises his role as pre-Revenge of the Sith and post-Return of the Jedi Anakin.
This season, like last season, will include new live-action flashbacks to Ahsoka’s and Anakin’s experiences during the Clone Wars. At its most basic level, the time Ahsoka spends now with Anakin is a form of therapy for her; Ahsoka still has significant trauma to work through, as well as obvious survivor’s guilt. Looking back at her time with Anakin during the Clone Wars and learning to understand how the war and violence affected her is an important part of her journey.
In the Ahsoka season 2 trailer, audiences are shown one particular Clone Wars-era flashback. Though Ahsoka only uses one green lightsaber in the scene, her trademark second saber is clearly clipped to her jacket. This means the flashback takes place sometime between Star Wars: The Clone Wars seasons 3 and 5, before she chose to leave the Jedi Order. As avid The Clone Wars fans will know, wherever Anakin and Ahsoka went, Obi-Wan Kenobi usually wasn’t far behind.
In season 3, Ahsoka secretly defied orders and tagged along on one of Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s secretive missions. In season 4, Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan investigated the disappearance of an entire colony of people on the planet Kiros. In season 5, the trio — accompanied by Captain Rex — traveled to Onderon to train Saw Gerrera and his sister, Steela. Those aren’t the only examples, either, and another shared Clone Wars arc will likely be an important part of Ahsoka season 2’s storytelling.
How Ahsoka Season 2’s Most Important Storyline Involves Obi-Wan

It would make sense for Ewan McGregor to reprise his role as Clone Wars-era Kenobi in Ahsoka’s flashbacks. Given all the missions they went on together, he was an important part of her training and a major influence on who she became as a person beyond the Jedi Order. This includes their terrifyingly pivotal ordeal on Mortis in The Clone Wars season 3, during which Ahsoka, Anakin, and Obi-Wan met the Mortis gods: the Son, who represents the dark side; the Daughter, who represents the light; and the Father, who keeps the balance between the two.

Jedi Master — or moisture farmer on Tatooine?
In the Ahsoka season 1 finale, Baylan Skoll discovers mountain-sized statues of the Mortis gods. The Father’s statue is pointed towards something in the distance. In the season 2 trailer, Anakin says that Baylan “claimed to have knowledge of a power, one that could end wars.” If the prevailing theory turns out to be true, and Baylan is searching for Star Wars Legends villain Abeloth (related to the Mortis gods and also referred to as “the Mother”), the upcoming season could potentially show live-action flashbacks of Ahsoka’s, Obi-Wan’s, and Anakin’s time on Mortis, or the immediate aftermath of that adventure.
If Ewan McGregor is secretly part of Ahsoka season 2, however small his role, Disney and Lucasfilm have made the right decision to keep that under wraps (for now, at least). While it would be great to see live-action Clone Wars-era Obi-Wan again, this is still Rosario Dawson’s show. She deserves to be the center of attention, even if she ends up sharing the screen with Star Wars legends Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor.
