A video of Deputy Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, Avishag Hefer, handing out the Indian Tricolour at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai was shared on social media. She did it as part of India’s 80th Independence Day celebration.

The video was posted on the official X profile dedicated to Israel in Mumbai. The agency wrote, “As part of the #HarGharTiranga campaign, Deputy Consul General of Israel in Mumbai, Ms. Avishag Hefer, distributed the Indian Tricolor at the historic CSMT station and conveyed heartfelt wishes on India’s 80th Independence Day.”
It added, “Celebrating freedom, friendship, and the incredible spirit of India.”
The video shows Hefer, wearing a white shirt and a black skirt, holding several Indian flags. With a smile on her face, she goes around offering them to the commuters. As the clip continues, people are seen taking the flags with smiles on their faces; one kid also salutes in response.

The video prompted various reactions on social media. While some thanked the diplomat, others wished “Happy Independence Day”.
In a conversation with the ANI, the diplomat talked about celebrating India’s Independence Day. She said, “This is my second Independence Day here… The first time I arrived here, it took me a while to get used to the energy of the city… I am happy to spend the second Independence Day…”
Today, August 15, the whole country is celebrating the 80th anniversary of India’s freedom. This day commemorates India’s freedom from over 200 years of British colonial rule and the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
This year, the celebrations are focusing on ‘Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047’. This year, 2026, also commemorates 150 years of Vande Mataram.
