With season three of House of the Dragon coming to an end on Sunday, fans are left feeling the effects of the hiatus, which is expected to last at least two years. However, with the fourth season set to be its last, we can expect large-scale production, and a whole lot of death as the Targaryen civil war, and most importantly, the reign of the dragons, finally come to an end.
That being said, 2026 has been an incredible year for fans of Game of Thrones, or George R.R. Martin’s incredible high fantasy world in general. Not only did House of the Dragon season three air, but so too did A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, another spin-off show with events that take place between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones.
On top of that, The Mad King stage play began in earnest just weeks ago, telling the story of the events just before Game of Thrones begins, showing much younger versions of the characters we know and love from the show.
Last but not least, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, an exciting new RPG was revealed, with its launch expected some time in 2027, and that is not to mention that well received iOS and Apple game, Game of Thrones: Conquest. All in all, Martin’s world continues to grow, and we are in for the ride.
However, there is yet another release to look forward to that is set to combine the worlds of both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones: Legends is a mobile strategy game that was first released in Summer 2024 and has welcomed several exciting expansions ever since.
Now, the next expansion is set to launch on 20 August, titled “Assault on Rook’s Rest.” Inspired by House of the Dragon season two, the expansion will see well-known show characters such as Ser Criston Cole and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen take to the roster. They will join the likes of Jon Snow and Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, so this mobile RPG really combines every Martin era together in one handy little bundle of strategy and raids.
Whilst you are grabbing your phone and tucking into all of the content Game of Thrones: Legends has to offer, it is worth turning your attention to the future. It has already been confirmed that House of the Dragon season four will air in 2028, marking the finale of the epic Game of Thrones spin-off.
In recent days, filming for season two of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has wrapped, with the story expected to continue in 2027 and, on top of that, a theatrical release of Aegon’s Conquest is also reportedly in development, taking us back hundreds of years into the past, when Aegon Targaryen and his sister-wives conquer Westeros for the first time.
