The Iron Throne Officially Releases August 21

There’s probably no more iconic symbol of power in Game of Thrones than the coveted Iron Throne itself. While it has been depicted with slight differences across every adaptation, it’s described in the original A Song of Ice and Fire novels and Fire & Blood as a hulking mass of twisted, blackened steel, forged from the swords of Aegon the Conqueror’s defeated enemies.

The Iron Throne features jagged blades and sharp points jutting from it in every direction that often cut and slice those seated atop it, famously even claiming the life of Maegor the Cruel, who was found dead upon the throne with his wrists slashed and one of its blades driven through his neck.

The Iron Throne is more than just a seat of power in Game of Thrones, symbolizing the immense cost of ruling Westeros, and the violence and bloodshed inevitably surrounding those who seek to claim it. And in an upcoming limited-time release, fans will get a chance to claim The Iron Throne for themselves starting August 21 (via GoTC).

The Iron Throne is a limited-time PvE event coming up for Game of Thrones: Conquest running from August 21 to August 23, and serves as one of several unique events introduced throughout the year. Other PvE-specific events in August include The Song of Ice and Fire running from August 18 to August 20, The Dragon Pit, which is live now and runs through tomorrow, August 14, as well as several others that already completed earlier in the month.

PvE events in Game of Thrones: Conquest are limited-time challenges centered around battling game-controlled creatures, with players earning event points and rewards for attacking or defeating those enemies. Standard PvE combat takes place against creatures on the Combat Map and benefits from PvE-specific gear, Heroes, and buffs.

For August 2026, the month-long History and Visions arc includes a series of themed PvE events inspired by major moments from Westerosi history. Specific details haven’t been released yet for this month’s The Iron Throne, and the preview does not specify which creatures will be appearing, nor does it detail specific individual rewards. However, players will be able to earn materials for selected legacy gear sets by defeating creatures in special events throughout the month.

Aside from PvE events, there are several Special Events scheduled for August as part of the History and Visions arc, including The Great Hunt and Honor of the Old Gods later this month.
