The New York Yankees are already being connected to one of baseball’s top offseason trade candidates.
In a recent article for CBS Sports, Mike Axisa named the Yankees among the top potential offseason landing spots for Milwaukee Brewers star catcher William Contreras.
“Next season will be his last season before free agency, however, which is when the Brewers tend to trade their best players — Freddy Peralta in 2026, Devin Williams in 2025, Corbin Burnes in 2024, etc. Contreras will reach that point in the offseason and the Brewers ostensibly acquired his replacement at the deadline in Bo Naylor. Super early possible landing spots: Padres, Rangers, Yankees,” Axisa wrote.
Seeing the Yankees being viewed as a potential offseason landing spot for Contreras is not difficult to understand in the slightest. They failed to upgrade at the catcher position ahead of the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline, and that was their biggest roster need. Due to this, it would make sense if the Yankees pursued Contreras this offseason.
If the Yankees acquired Contreras from the Brewers, he would undoubtedly give their roster a significant boost. The three-time All-Star is once again having a strong season with the Brewers, as he has recorded 11 home runs, 59 RBIs, and a .267 batting average. With numbers like these, he would improve the Yankees’ offense nicely if brought in.
It will be interesting to see if the Yankees end up making a push for Contreras this offseason. If they landed him, he would finally give them a real answer for their serious issues behind the plate.
