Prime Video’s new TV show hailing from the Gossip Girl creators has earned an impressive audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Airing for six seasons from 2007 to 2012, Gossip Girl developed a massive following during its time on The CW. Based off the same-named book series by Cecily von Ziegesar, the teen drama focused on a group of privileged students from Manhattan’s Upper East Side whose exploits were documented by the anonymous blogger Gossip Girl. Along with Kristen Bell narrating as the title character, the series’ cast included Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, and Chance Crawford, among others.
Gossip Girl was created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who previously worked together on The O.C. Although both of them subsequently served as executive producers on the standalone sequel series also titled Gossip Girl, Schwartz and Savage have been better known in more recent years for shows like Runaways and Nancy Drew. Now their newest series, Sterling Point, has proven to be a hit among Prime Video subscribers.
Sterling Point currently has an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes’ user-driven Popcornmeter. That accompanies the even more impressive 92% rating on the critic-driven Tomatometer based off 26 reviews, making it a critical success across the board. All of season 1’s eight episodes dropped on Wednesday, August 5, and Sterling Point is already a worldwide hit on Prime Video’s streaming charts.
The original series stars Ella Rubin as Abbie Jacobson, a 17-year-old girl who inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada. Upon arriving there with her twin brother and adoptive father, Abbie discovers new friends and budding romances while uncovering family secrets. Rubin is joined in Sterling Point’s main cast by Amélie Hoeferle, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Bo Bragason, Keen Ruffalo, Mabel Strachan, Missi Pyle, Jay Duplass, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Prime Video greenlit the ideal weekend binge Sterling Point in January 2025. Filming then began at the end of June 2025 and ended in mid-October. Schwartz and Savage share Sterling Point showrunning duties with creator Megan Park, who’s best known on the acting front for playing Grace Bowman in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. In 2021, Park made her feature directorial debut with The Fallout, then followed that with My Old Ass in 2024.
ScreenRant’s Sterling Point review rated the series six out of 10 stars, describing it as a “messy, emotionally charged coming-of-age story packed with secrets, new connections, and just the right amount of dramatic chaos.” It was further recommended that fans of “cheesy YA drama full of cringey dialogue, an iconic soundtrack, and gut-wrenchingly powerful performances” should add this to their watchlists. It remains to be seen if Sterling Point will return for season 2.
With Sterling Point now available to watch on Prime Video, next up for the streamer is Reacher season 4, which premieres Wednesday, August 12.
