Kate Cassidy has hit back at trolls who accused her of abandoning the dog she and Liam Payne had together when she told fans she was jetting off on holiday this week
Kate Cassidy has hit back at trolls who accused her of abandoning the dog she and Liam Payne shared together. The influencer, 27, and the late One Direction singer, who died in 2024 at the age of just 31 after falling from a balcony, adopted rescue dog Nala just before the pop star’s tragic death.
On Thursday, the content creator revealed on social media that she was jetting off on holiday and posted a snap from the airport claiming she was “flying out of town for some peace of mind.” But followers were quick to question where Nala was as she jetted off on holiday.
One follower wrote: “Leaving Nala alone again??” and another said: “Always away, always having a sub owner for Nala, huh!” whilst a third wrote: “Leaving Nala…again; She doesn’t care about Nala.”
Kate was quick to respond to the trolls as she confirmed that her canine companion had been left in the care of a friend. She wrote: “Nala is literally staying with Anna everyone plzzzz.”
When a fan again asked how Nala was, Kate reiterated: “She’s so good she’s with Anna.” Earlier this month, fans thought then that Kate, 27, must have rehomed Nala.
As she had been away from home for some time, fans began to speculate about the dog’s ownership. But when she returned, she swiftly moved to clear up the rumours.
Sharing a snap of Nala on Instagram Stories, Kate wrote over the top: “Reunited!!! No, I didn’t rehome Nala. You guys are funny. I had a family friend stay at my apartment with her.”
She added: “I’d highly recommend for anyone leaving for a longer period of time to have someone stay in your home with your furry baby!!! Makes them feel less confused and they’re still at home.”
In another post, she shared another pic of Nala, where the dog had a furrowed brow. Cassidy added loads of question marks around the dog’s head and wrote: “Nala’s reaction to the rehoming rumours.”
Liam and Kate had been on holiday in Argentina in the leadup to his death, and they had supported his former bandmate Niall Horan in concert. In the days before the tragedy occurred, Kate returned to their Florida home to care for Nala whilst Liam stayed behind.
In the weeks after Liam’s death, Kate explained: “I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur. Liam was in such a good headspace when I left.”
Kate has tried dating again in the years since but was recently dumped by a boyfriend after she kept comparing him to Payne. In a TikTok video, she admitted that she “hated” being single again after the breakup. She posted a video of herself where she wrote the words “I hate being single” over the top.
