A Democratic Congressional candidate in Hawaii was sitting behind bars instead of handing out campaign flyers after getting knocked out cold in a now viral beach brawl.
Kirill Basin — who is running against incumbent Rep. Jill Tokuda (D-HI) — was sunbathing Saturday in South Kihei when someone asked him to turn down his music, according to TMZ.
Basin allegedly argued with the couple who made the request and lost his cool, video of the encounter showed.
“He’s a child, he’s a child,” a woman can be heard saying in the clip.
“I’m a child? I’m 40 f*cking years old,” he raged before getting in her face.
“Well, you should act like it!” she responds.
“I will put you in the f*cking ground,” he seethed. “You will be in the f*cking hospital.”
He spits a profanity at the woman and starts to walk away as children can be heard in the background — then gets confronted by a bigger man, according to footage of the encounter at Mana Kai Maui hotel at Keawakapu Beach, in Maui.
Things got violent from there, according to the video.
The men briefly exchange words before Basin tries to shove the larger man, who mops the floor — or, sand — with him.
“Let’s go! Let’s go!” the man tells Basin, who gets up from the ground and grabs a beach chair before swinging it at his opponent.
The Democrat never had a chance, as the man knocked him down again before the chair made contact, apparently delighting witnesses, including one who proclaimed, “Chair thrower!” and another who said, “Lights out bro!”
The woman Basin exchanged words with can be heard letting out a loud laugh.
The bigger man puts his hand on Basin’s chest, telling him, “Wake up!” before putting his finger in the candidate’s face and telling him: “Watch your f*cking mouth, Haole boy.”
The term is a slur in Hawaii used to reference someone of non-Hawaiian descent.
The candidate was later arrested on two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and held on $1 million bail, according to Hawaii News Now.
Authorities accused Basin of threatening to shoot the woman and threatening people with a knife. Basin’s attorney denied the man had a knife.
The good Samaritan told Hawaii News Now he watched as Basin became more unhinged.
“I’m like, maybe I should intervene, and then as I got closer and closer, he was just getting more irate and violent and then saying stuff. ‘I’m going to hurt you’ or ‘I can injure you’ or ‘You like scrap’ to the aunties,” Kama told the outlet.
“He put his hands on me and as soon as he tried to shove me, I hit him with a left and a right, and that’s when he stumbled and fell over the chairs,” Kama said.
The beach chair didn’t stop the construction worker from making sure Basin stopped his antics.
“Just block it and go for the KO. Just protect myself, which is why I had my hand up, and then I adjusted to block the chair,” said the dad, who said he had mixed martial arts training.
