Vice President JD Vance dropped a “mean tweet” Wednesday on Fox News contributor and Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen.
Vance, who somewhat toned down his social media trolling since becoming vice president, replied to a post from Thiessen commenting on the price of burritos.
Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet wrote on X to start the exchange, “One of our TPUSA college students gave me his take on affordability: ‘A burrito shouldn’t cost $20.’ Yeah, a lot of this is a hangover from Covid and Biden-era inflation, but the lived experience is the same: It just feels like basic things cost too much.”
Thiessen replied, “Cry me a river. The burritos in the college cafeteria are included in your meal plan.”
Vance then jumped in.
“I’m surprised to hear Mark say this. If you’ve ever met him in person, it’s quite obvious the man has never missed a burrito,” he wrote.
Vance, who has noticeably slimmed down in recent months, was likely holding onto some anger over Thiessen’s most recent column in the Washington Post titled, “Trump’s Iran strategy is working. His vice president’s isn’t.”
In the piece, Thiessen argued Vance had given Iran a “veto” over the U.S. declaring victory in the war with his failed negotiations.
“Like Lucy and the football, Trump keeps getting told that this time the Iranians are finally ready to make a deal — only to be set up for failure yet again. Indeed, by elevating a deal as the definition of victory, Vance has given Iran a veto over America’s ability to declare victory. All it has to do is refuse to agree — which it is doing,” Thiessen wrote of Vance’s role in ending the war.
Thiessen pulled no punches in claiming that Vance is not only giving Trump bad advice but “undermining” the president in public.
“Trump has never taken a resumption of major combat off the table. Why was Vance publicly warning of the dire consequences of the policy option (which Trump in fact nearly ordered just a few days ago)? The vice president doesn’t get his own foreign policy,” wrote the prominent Fox News pundit, adding, “As Vance publicly undermines the president, he is trying to dissuade Trump from resuming major combat with straw man arguments.”
