It didn’t take long for President Donald Trump to trash Michigan Democratic Senate primary winner Abdul El-Sayed, ripping the pol as a “Communist loser who hates Jews and Israel.”
Taking to Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump spoke out moments after major outlets officially called the race for El-Sayed.
“Great news for the Republican Party,” Trump posted. “El-Sayed, a Communist loser who hates Jews and Israel, is the projected winner in his race with the Socialist.”
Trump also criticized polling in the state.
“As usual, the Polls were way off on this one. She was not expected to do nearly as well as she did. Now, the Dumocrats crazy policies will only get worse!”
Moments earlier, in another social media rant, Trump called Michigan’s election system “third world” and issued an early warning that November’s midterm contest would be “rigged.”
“Wayne County (Detroit) in Michigan is one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States, if not the World. It is strictly Third World!” Trump said in his post. “Miracles happen in Wayne County, including more votes being cast than there are voters, by a lot.”
El-Sayed, a progressive who enjoyed the backing of such high-profile figures as Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), edged out Rep. Haley Stevens (D) by just under 15,000 votes in Tuesday’s primary.
He will now face Trump-backed candidate Mike Rogers in what the Associated Press called a “pivotal” race to flip the U.S. Senate.
“In November we must VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS, and make Michigan TOO BIG TO RIG,” Trump said. “God Bless America!”
In his victory speech Wednesday, El-Sayed challenged Rogers to “five debates.”
“So, Mike I’m going to say it right here, I know you’re gonna say no because you are a coward – Five debates! Alright?” he said. “If you’re willing to stand with me and have a conversation, you and I both know that you will wither in front of your own crimes.”
