Jamie Foxx is once again “back in action,” this time for a new action movie for Prime Video, Deadlocked, which is now in development.
Deadline reported the news on Tuesday that Foxx had been cast to star in this new Prime Video action film, which will be directed by Nikhil Bhat, an Indian filmmaker known for his Hindi action thrillers like his 2023 films Kill and Apurva. The movie will be released globally via streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The original script will be written by Eric Scot Anderson (The Black Fox) and Matt Takejiro Bosack (creator of NCIS: Hawai’i). The movie will be produced by Foxx via his Foxxhole Productions, as well as Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger via Range Media Partners, and Dave Caplan via C2 Motion Picture Group.
Jamie Foxx’s last big action movie lead role—for the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action, where he starred alongside Cameron Diaz— was a long, troubled shoot. Foxx was forced to leave the shoot in 2023 due to a medical emergency, which the star later revealed to be a brain bleed and stroke. But Foxx bounced back, and the film was a hit for Netflix. Now he’s apparently feel well enough to lead another action movie.

Here’s the official logline for the Deadlocked movie, per Deadline: “Deadlocked follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is forced back into action when the trial of the century turns into a deadly hostage situation as the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse to free her father.”

When is the Deadlocked movie release date?
There is not yet a Deadlocked movie release date, because the movie has not yet begun filming. We only just got the announcement that the movie is being made yesterday!
That said, according to Deadline, the movie will be released on streaming on Prime Video. Most movies take between one to three years to complete, so we would guess that the absolute soonest you would see Deadlocked streaming on Amazon Prime would be next year, in summer 2027. Once we have a sense of the production and filming schedule for the movie, we’ll have a more solid idea of the Deadlocked release date.
