Game of Thrones has had a succession of incredible releases since the original series concluded back in 2019, including a string of follow-up shows, video games, and tabletop experiences. Warner Bros. is hellbent on getting as much out of the IP as it possibly can, and it has done so with aplomb and unsurprising success, especially considering the talent it amasses behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Fortunately, this means it’s a pretty phenomenal time to be a fan of GoT and its many spin-offs and prequels, as the new content is endless and exciting.
Among all of the many new releases, including Game of Thrones’ more divisive new entries, stands a newcomer that has found a strong audience and proven popular among many. However, rather surprisingly, Warner Bros. has done little to advertise it, at least to a mass market whose finger isn’t perpetually on the GoT pulse, and so many have likely overlooked it or missed out entirely. Fortunately, Game of Thrones: The Silver Blade is poised to rectify that and bring a whole wealth of new fans to the franchise’s latest project.
One area in which Game of Thrones has bizarrely always struggled is video games. While there have been a handful of Game of Thrones games released over the years, not only have they failed to capture the scale and ambition of the original books and show, but they’ve also just been mediocre at best. Aside from some more notable efforts that ostensibly adapt the main narrative or offer a fun novel way of interacting with fan-favorite characters, Game of Thrones’ sparse selection of video games has been underwhelming to say the least.
Warner Bros. hopes to change that with the recently released Game of Thrones: Dragonfall, a 4X strategy game that is preceding the upcoming War for Westeros, and is available exclusively for mobile devices. The free-to-play game puts players in control of a wide selection of dragons which appeared during the Targaryen Civil War as they attempt to outsmart their opponents and dominate Westeros. Packed with a whole host of other features, including a dragon-riding mini-game, Dragonfall aims to be the ultimate companion piece to House of the Dragon.
The latest addition to Dragonfall, which Warner Bros. hopes will bring even more eyes onto the project, is Moondancer, The Silver Blade, a brand-new dragon that players can unlock and use in game. The legendary dragon of Baela Targaryen comes with a slew of its own unique abilities, and is classed as a Legendary Warrior in-game who “builds momentum over time, becoming increasingly difficult to kill while applying sustained pressure to multiple enemies.“
Moondancer isn’t the first iconic dragon to be added to Dragonfall, but it is absolutely a noteworthy one. Whether it is enough to convince players to try out the free-to-play mobile game is another question, but Warner Bros. certainly hopes it is. The game will continue to get more updates in the future which will add even more dragons for players to collect as well as new features and events. For those anticipating Game of Thrones’ upcoming 2027 PC strategy game, or simply fans who want more ways to engage with GoT, Dragonfall may be a good option.
