Stephanie Grisham, who served as President Donald Trump’s White House communications director in his first term, filed a restraining order against embattled Rep. Max Miller (R-OH).
Miller is facing growing calls to step down after his ex-wife Emily Moreno – the daughter of Sen. Berine Moreno (R-OH) – accused him of physical and emotional abuse. She says Miller pointed a gun at her head, threw scalding hot water at her, pushed her into a wall, and fractured their two-year-old daughter’s collarbone. Miller denies the accusations.
On Monday, Grisham, who dated Miller in 2019 and 2020, filed a restraining order against him.
“Today we filed for a Temporary Restraining Order against Cong. Max Miller (R-OH) on behalf of former Trump Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham,” her attorney Mark S. Zaid posted. He did not elaborate on what prompted the move.
Zaid is representing Grisham in her lawsuit against Miller, which stems from an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post in 2021. In it, Grisham described an abusive relationship with a man whose name she did not mention in the piece. Miller sued Grisham for defamation almost immediately after the op-ed was published. The congressman eventually dropped his lawsuit, and he and Grisham signed a nondisclosure agreement stating that the parties would not publicly disparage one another.
Grisham sued Miller last month, alleging that Miller had broken the agreement with remarks he made during a June 5 interview with Spectrum News.
“Without question, every allegation should be taken seriously,” Miller said in the interview. “What should be noted is that allegation came out on the same day as somebody’s book launch. And the other part, what I would like to discuss, is my ex-wife was with me every single day during that time of my life in that election, and she, in her own words, will tell you that I never did any of those things.”
On Monday, Axios reported that Trump had phoned Miller to express concern about the lawmaker’s reelection bid, stating that “things aren’t looking good.”
