Netflix has struck gold with rom-coms repeatedly over the years, and they’ve now found one of their biggest hits in the genre with a 2026 release. While Hollywood’s theatrically-focused studios have failed to fully support the genre in the last decade, Netflix’s romantic comedy movies have filled the void well. And in doing so, they’ve helped establish the modern crop of stars.
Joey King did the Kissing Booth trilogy and 2024’s A Family Affair. Lana Condor got her breakout role through the To All The Boys franchise. Sofia Carson has found multiple big hits with The Life List and My Oxford Year. Victoria Justice, Miranda Cosgrove, Kat Graham, and others have also found success.
Netflix’s original 2026 movies have brought more rom-coms with notable stars. Emily Bader gained more recognition from People We Meet On Vacation. Jennifer Lopez even returned to the familiar genre to make Office Romance. But there is a different movie that has taken over the streaming service and turned its star into a rom-com queen.
Over three weeks ago, Voicemails for Isabelle launched on Netflix with Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson headlining the cast. It has become one of Netflix’s most-watched 2026 movies after earning 61.8 million views during this time. That’s enough to beat Office Romance and People We Meet On Vacation to be the year’s biggest Netflix rom-com, and it makes Voicemails for Isabelle an all-time great performer for the streamer.
Voicemails For Isabelle Is One Of Netflix’s Biggest Rom-Coms Ever
No matter how you filter Netflix’s viewership data, Voicemails for Isabelle comes out as one of the biggest rom-coms that the streamer has had. Since July 2021, Netflix has shared weekly viewership data for its top 10 charts, and the 2026 release ranks as the seventh biggest rom-com over that span (not factoring in Christmas-themed movies).
Since Voicemails for Isabelle has only been on Netflix for three weeks, comparing its viewership to longer runs from other titles isn’t totally fair. Four of five movies above it overall spent at least four weeks in the top 10, with The Kissing Booth 3 the only exception. It ranks sixth for minutes watched through three weeks.
Going beyond the pure views, Voicemails for Isabelle has the fifth most hours and minutes viewed during its first three weeks. It also boasts the second-highest week 2 performance (31 million views, behind only A Family Affair‘s 31.9 million), as well as the biggest week 3 viewership for a rom-com (13.3 million views, edging out The Life List‘s 13.1 million).

If Voicemails for Isabelle can stay in Netflix’s top 10 weekly charts for another week or two (which seems doable since it’s still in the daily top 10 charts), it could climb higher up these all-time charts. The warm response to Deutch and Robinson’s chemistry may ultimately propel this to become a top 5 most-watched Netflix original rom-com.
While any rom-com is only as successful as the duo at its core, Voicemails for Isabelle is undoubtedly more focused on Deutch’s character. Jill is an aspiring chef who starts leaving voicemails on her dead sister’s phone as a way to cope with the loss, which leads her to Robinson’s Wes, as his new work phone gets Isabelle’s old number.
Deutch is excellent in Voicemails for Isabelle, delivering the comedic aspects of the performance with ease and still being able to nail the wide-ranging emotional aspects of the role. This shouldn’t be too surprising, though, as she’s a veteran of the genre. Deutch’s movies already include one of Netflix’s best rom-coms with 2018’s Set It Up, while her 2022 Prime Video original rom-com, Something from Tiffany’s, is also quite charming.
It’s clear from Voicemails for Isabelle‘s viewership and general reception that audiences really enjoy Deutch in this genre. She’s proven to have great taste and be more than capable of tackling different types of lead rom-com characters. Hopefully, it won’t be another four years (or eight years on Netflix) for Deutch to return to the realm of romantic comedies. Netflix should be eager to get her back for another after Voicemails for Isabelle‘s success, too.
