Season 3 of Apple TV’s Silo cracks open the history behind its underground society, dividing its attention between a civilization struggling to recover from rebellion and the conspiracy that set its ruinous future in motion. Tim Robbins, Common, Alexandria Riley, Ashley Zukerman, and Jessica Henwick spoke with Kyle Meredith about shattered identities, shifting allegiances, political paranoia, and the increasingly uncomfortable similarities between the show’s dystopia and our own world. After two seasons as the silo’s immaculate authoritarian nightmare, Robbins’ Bernard returns physically burned and spiritually gutted, finally realizing that the system he protected was built on deception. Robbins relished the chance to dismantle the character from the inside out. “Everything he thought was true turned out to be false,” he explains. “You can take one of anger and bitterness and withdrawal, or you can use that anger to make amends for what you did.” Common’s Robert Sims faces his own reckoning as power shifts toward his wife Camille, played by Riley. “I’ve been waiting for this guy,” Common says of finally moving Sims beyond hired-muscle territory. “I can’t just be the heavy in this.” Riley, meanwhile, sees Camille’s ascent less as a sudden heel turn than the inevitable unveiling of a woman who has spent years quietly gathering information and playing every side. “She’s always stood in her own power,” Riley says. “That’s what I’ve loved about her character.”
Above ground and centuries earlier, Henwick and Zukerman inhabit a conspiracy thriller with the bruised texture of The Parallax View and Three Days of the Condor. Their journalist and congressman uncover the chain of events that will eventually stuff humanity into underground concrete, but the show’s old-school paranoia arrives with very current anxieties attached. Zukerman says the story exists in a world where “humanity is working pretty hard to destroy itself,” whether through runaway AI, climate change, or global conflict. Memory loss further complicates the moral wreckage, raising his biggest question: “What do you keep? What do you lose? What stories can you be filled with?” Henwick distills the season’s dilemma into something even more chilling: “Is it better to live a lie if the truth will destroy you?”
