There’s no doubt that The Walking Dead has come a very long way from the comic book days of the early 2000s, thanks mostly to the AMC television adaptation that captured a generation of viewers. Since then, there have been plenty of spin-offs and further adaptations to other mediums, including the world of video games.
Though the Telltale approach probably remains the best one we have seen to date, we don’t have to live in the past as players, and there are new releases coming out all the time. Now, one of those has just received a worldwide launch, and it promises to really let the player make the original story their own.
Over on the app store for both Google Play and iOS, you should be able to find the download page for The Walking Dead: Aftermath. Though it’s a mobile game, the developer has really hit a ton of different playable features that should help it appeal to a general audience, as well as fans of the show.
In describing what fans can expect from the game, Ares Interactive shared the following insight about the project:
“Rick Grimes woke from a coma to find the world transformed. Cities abandoned. Families torn apart. The living forced to become something new just to survive. Step into the world of AMC’s The Walking Dead universe and begin your journey where it all started, in an action game shaped by the characters and stories fans know and love.
“Now it’s your turn. Begin your journey on the outskirts of Atlanta, where a fragile camp struggles to endure against the constant threat of the walkers. What starts as a desperate fight for survival quickly becomes something more. A test of leadership and who you are willing to become. You are not alone.”
As with many mobile games, you can expect microtransactions that offer you the chance to speed up your progress, but many of the reviews suggest that this is optional. It’s also free to download and features many of the franchise’s most iconic characters, so it could be a great way to get your fix between episodes.
If you do fancy giving it a go, the full version of The Walking Dead: Aftermath is available to download right now. Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City is also set to air for the first time on July 26, so fans should be eating pretty well for a while to come yet.
