While Nolan Wells‘ high school football coach, Tracy Lampley, insists there were no racial tensions at his school, Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett says his case is all about race.
As we previously shared, the 18-year-old Mississippi boy had gone missing after he and a group of all-White friends went on a Fourth of July boat trip to Horn Island. Two days later, officials found him dead in the water, sparking an investigation.
As Wells’ parents and their lawyer, civil rights attorney Ben Crump, continue to speculate someone murdered him, local police said they found no signs of foul play and believe he drowned. While recently speaking with TMZ, Wells’ high school football coach, Tracy Lampley, broke his silence on the death investigation of his former player.
When asked if there were any racial tensions at their Mississippi high school, Lampley said no. He explained he never got the vibe that Wells’ murder had something to do with race. He said all of the boys “grew up together” and “played together.” The coach also said Wells got along with everyone, people naturally gravitated towards him. He continued to remember him for his big personality and big, bright smile.
Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett Says Race Absolutely Plays A Role In Nolan Wells Death Case
Hours later, TMZ’s Washington, D.C. correspondent Jacob Wassermn spoke with Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX). According to the congresswoman, Wells’ case is all about race. She said as soon as she learned Wells disappeared in the presence of 3 White boys — who all quickly deleted their social media accounts and reportedly lawyered up — she knew something was awry.
Crockett also isn’t here for the friends claiming Wells left his cellphone with them as he insisted on staying back on the island as they all went back to the mainland. Crockett continued to allege this isn’t an isolated incident and that there is a lot of history with racism in Mississippi. She further condemned anyone who doesn’t believe race has a role in any parts of this case.
Wasserman then mentioned Wells’ high school football coach, Tracy Lampley, and him being adamant about their school being exempt from racial tensions. Crockett countered and said what if the victim were a White boy and his friends were Black. She said, in that case, the Black boys would be under the jail with zero questions asked.
