William’s eldest son, Prince George, has also inherited his father’s love for soccer, accompanying his father to several Aston Villa matches and cup finals, displaying the same style of fan support as his father. George cheered for England during Euro 2020 and attended the 2024 FA Cup final.
The Prince of Wales mentioned a few years ago that his eldest son is already a die-hard Aston Villa fan. Charlotte is starting to get into soccer, and little Louis has yet to choose his favorite team. William has also said on several occasions that his children are free to choose their favorite team without feeling obligated to follow their father’s preferences. Princess Charlotte, who reportedly supports Chelsea like her mother, the Princess of Wales, accompanied her father to the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro finals against Spain, played at St. Jakob-Park on July 27, 2025, in Basel, Switzerland.
Prince Harry, too, was close to the world of soccer, especially before his wedding. In 2002, he tried to score a penalty kick during a visit to West Ham United’s Upton Park stadium, and in subsequent years he took part in the traditional Christmas soccer matches organized at the Sandringham estate. King Charles, on the other hand, is said not to be a fan of the sport. As a guest on the New Heights podcast, hosted by American football stars Travis and Jason Kelce, William answered without hesitation when asked who had introduced him to the world of soccer and his favorite team, Aston Villa. His answer surprised listeners: “Absolutely not—my father hates football.” In 2006, however, during a visit to St. James’ Park in Newcastle, the then Prince Charles put his skills to the test, entertaining the crowd with his penalty kick.
Many expected Prince William to fly across the Atlantic to support the English team because of his great passion for the sport. So far, however, this hasn’t happened, much to the surprise of many fans. One of the main reasons for William’s absence is reportedly related to his family. Prince George has just finished the school year at Lambrook School in Berkshire, an important milestone his father would have liked to share with him. Additionally, the future king recently accompanied the Princess of Wales to Wimbledon for the men’s final.
It is still possible, however, that if England were to reach the final, the prince might decide to catch the first flight to cheer on the team in person. Also during an episode of New Heights, William had hinted at the possibility of traveling to the United States. When asked about his possible attendance at the final, he replied, “Definitely, if we make it to the final.”
