It’s the last day in Paradise.
Hulu’s post-apocalyptic science-fiction thriller series is returning for its third and final season. Creator and showrunner Dan Fogelman revealed on April 7 that season 3 filming had begun, only a week after the Paradise season 2 finale was released. Since then, he has posted images showing that Elijah Wood and Melissa Benoist have joined the cast and that dead characters Cal Bradford (James Marsden) and Billy Pace (Jon Beavers) will be back.
On Instagram, Fogelman has now revealed that Paradise season 3 has wrapped production in Los Angeles. He included a picture of himself and the crew, many of whom he also worked with on the hit NBC series This Is Us, noting that they have been collaborating together for almost a decade now between the two shows. Check out Fogelman’s post below:
Beavers also confirmed on his Instagram that the series had wrapped while filming him doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with help from co-star Sterling K. Brown.
On the same day that Fogelman and Beavers revealed the completion of season 3 filming, The Hollywood Reporter released an interview with executive producer and writer John Hoberg, who was asked about Samantha “Sinatra” Redmond (Julianne Nicholson) telling Xavier Collins (Brown) that he is User X. While Hoberg doesn’t fully explain what this means, he believes that all questions will be answered in the final season, and for anything fans are still unsure about, he welcomes them messaging him on Instagram, as there is meant to be resolution to all aspects of the show.
It’s definitely her confirmation when [Alex] says, “Awaiting User X,” but for all you know, that’s an input that it’s just awaiting. Again, it’s a big question of, is she right? And like we always do in the show, we’ll answer it because we are ending at the end of season three, and I promise that we will answer every question I believe you have. And if not, then people can direct message me on Instagram and I’ll answer questions because our goal is to let you have an answer to everything.
While there are many questions heading into Paradise season 3, Hoberg’s comments suggest that the series will not end ambiguously or with any other major storylines left unresolved. This promise is consistent with what he says earlier in the interview, which is that the show’s creative team “have a marching order for ourselves, which is not to frustrate.”
Part of the key to Paradise being able to pull this off has been the quick turnaround between seasons. Season 1 debuted in early 2025, season 2 started filming less than a month after that finale, and season 2 premiered in early 2026. Season 3 started filming even sooner after the finale than its predecessor, and with production having wrapped now, an early 2027 release seems likely.
All of this is promising, but the series does have a great deal to answer before it ends. Beyond whether Xavier is User X, there is the matter of what will happen when he reaches the quantum computer known as Alex, which is hinted to have capabilities involving time travel and alternate realities, potentially even undoing the supervolcano eruption that caused the apocalyptic event. There is also the mystery of Dylan/Link (Thomas Doherty) and whether he is actually Sinatra’s son, possibly from another reality, after her child died young many years ago.
There’s still more to explore about Alex’s connection to Jane Driscoll (Nicole Brydon Bloom), the predictions that she would become a killer, and her corpse disappearing after being killed by Dr. Gabriela Torabi (Sarah Shahi). With the bunker now destroyed, the privileged survivors now must learn to navigate post-apocalyptic life on the surface as well. It’s a lot to take on in just one more season, but with filming done and promises of everything being answered, Paradise season 3 is poised to deliver.
Paradise seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Hulu.
