If it wasn’t already known, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has officially given fellow champion Claressa Shields a huge co-sign as he shares how “extremely proud” of her he is and how he is “behind her 100%.”
The 50-0 boxing legend, known as “TBE (The Best Ever),” has also labeled Shields, who is 18-0, the “Female TBE.” While fans mostly know Shields as “The GWOAT (Greatest Woman Of All Time),” she now reveals Mayweather has also dubbed her the “Female TBE.”
She shared the comment following her latest weigh-in on Friday (August 14). The event went down ahead of Shields’ big fight night against Kaye Scott at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on Saturday (August 15).
While speaking with press at her weigh-in, Shields stood next to her team, plus Mayweather. The boxing icon told ‘All The Smoke Boxing’ how proud he is of Shields achievements in women’s boxing, let alone boxing in general.
Mayweather said:
“I’m extremely proud of her. As a woman period, but as a Black woman. A Back woman to win the Olympics twice. To come to a dying sport and — you got other women in the sport not giving her her credit. She’s the best in the sport right now. She’s truly unbelievable. And I need everybody that’s watching right now to tune in tomorrow and continue to support her. She’s very outspoken. Super, super talented. Hand speed. A lot of combinations. She’s the best out there. So, I need everybody, tomorrow, to tune in. Continue to support her. I’m behind her 100%.”
Shields added, “My man. Aye, I got two names. Everybody calls me ‘GWOAT,’ but he calls me ‘Female TBE.’” Shields also talked about the influence Mayweather has had on her career. She said:
“Aye, man. He let me know that if you wanna be The Best Ever, if you wanna be the greatest, all you gotta do is put in hard work, and don’t let them discourage you, don’t let them doubt you, and live your life. I’ve definitely been watching him. And, man listen, I’m 18-0, he’s 50-0. It’s not many people who [are] undefeated like us in the sport of boxing.”
