Nickelodeon’s Christy Knowings – starred in All That alongside Amanda Bynes – has died after an asthma attack left her brain damaged

Nickelodeon star Christy Knowings has died, aged 46, her family revealed. The actress, who was in children’s sketch show All That alongside Amanda Bynes and Kenan Thompson was taken off life support on Tuesday 11 August.
Christy had suffered an asthma attack that left her with brain damage and was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on Friday 7 August. Doctors placed her on life support, on which she remained until her family decided to take her off on Tuesday.
The actress was known for her role on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show All That, which she joined in 1997, aged 17. This came after she had previously performed on Rosie O’Donnell‘s comedy special And Now This.
She stayed on the Nickelodeon show, subbed ‘SNL for kids’, for three years before taking on roles in Sesame Street alongside her twin brother Chris Knowings. Christy also released a folk single called To The World in 2020.
SNL star Kenan Thompson, whose career started on the same show as Christy, paid tribute ti his former co-star. He took to Instagram with a tribute for her, writing: “Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!”
Her manager, Al Hill, also shared in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter : “Christy was a multi-talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work.”
Christy is the second star from All That to die this year. In January, Kianna Underwood was killed in a hit and run incident aged 33. She was crossing the road in Brooklyn, New York, when a black Ford SUV hit her. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
All That featured several huge stars before they were famous. Starting in 1994, it’s original cast included both Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell, who went on to have their own sitcom Kenan & Kel.
While Kenan continued his career on comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live, Kel voiced T-Bone in Clifford The Big Red Dog, for which he received two Emmy nominations.
Amanda Bynes joined the show in 1996, when she was only 10 years old. Amanda became a huge name of the 2000s, starring in films such as What A Girl Wants, She’s The Man and Hairspray. She stepped back from acting full time in 2010 following a highly public struggle with her mental health.
Nick Cannon was also on the show, prior to his music and presenting career, as was Gabriel Iglesias, before he became a well-known stand up comedian. Jamie Lynn Spears was also on the show for a time.
