For All Mankind Nears End Of Long Apple TV Run With Season 6 Filming Update

It’s the end of an era for Apple TV’s For All Mankind.

The time-hopping space saga was one of the relatively few shows that were available on the streamer the day it launched on November 1, 2019. Now, seven years later, For All Mankind is eyeing the exit doors. It’s not the only original that is preparing to say goodbye. The Morning Show will also conclude with its upcoming final season.

But while the soapy drama is looking likely to end without a spinoff, at least for now, For All Mankind has already debuted the acclaimed Star City spinoff. Greeted with a near-perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, the spinoff will get to share the spotlight with For All Mankind season 6, which has wrapped filming.

Coral Peña, who plays the role of Aleida Rosales in the sci-fi series, posted on Instagram to mark the end of filming on season 6. Peña, who took over the role from Olivia Trujillo in season 2, shared a photo of a chair with her name on it and wrote: “Seven years later… series wrap on For All Mankind 🩻”

Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, the defining Apple TV Original presents an alternate history of the space race and spirals out from there to imagine a different future for its ensemble. The premise has allowed the sci-fi drama to go big, winning two Emmys in categories such as Outstanding Emerging Media Program and Innovation in Interactive Programming.

But it has also had a core of For All Mankind actors who have remained with the series throughout the changes. They include Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Walger, and Krys Marshall.

The emphasis of their characters differs depending on the season, with new storylines explored.

There are often new actors joining the ensemble, with later installments welcoming Edi Gathegi, Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Svetlana Efremova, Daniel Stern, Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson. These additions have often come with different perspectives, such as the question of whether workers would have in this new world or whether old systems would persist.

For All Mankind season 6 will debut in 2027, with casting and plot details likely to emerge in the coming months now that filming has wrapped. But it poses an interesting question on its own. As the first sci-fi original on Apple TV, it helped to define the platform as a hub for genre fans. That may not have happened if the show didn’t succeed.
