Netflix’s hit new action thriller isn’t showing any signs of slowing down on streaming. Netflix is helping to keep the action genre at the forefront, releasing some major new series and movies this year. The long-awaited Man on Fire remake (which was fantastic), Alan Ritchson’s sci-fi action epic War Machine, and the global hit that was Apex are a mere fraction of what Netflix has put out in 2026. In July, Netflix took fans overseas for a European action thriller, which has since become one of the streamer’s biggest new series this year. After almost a month on streaming, the French action series isn’t going anywhere.
Netflix recently dropped its weekly viewership figures through TUDUM, and 2026’s Elite Force remains one of the streamer’s biggest new shows. After debuting in July, Elite Force quickly shot up the global streaming charts, becoming Netflix’s most popular show worldwide in the week of its release. Nearly a month later, the series is still the sixth most-viewed non-English-language show on Netflix this week. Over the past seven days, Elite Force has raked in 2.5 million views, with over 12 million hours watched. That’s impressive for any show, but even more so when it’s the series’ third consecutive week in the streaming charts.
Elite Force is a fictional tale following the GIGN, France’s most elite tactical law enforcement and counter-terrorism unit. The unit specializes in hostage rescue and protecting high-ranking officials, meaning they’re putting their lives on the line every day. Understandably, such a job can have a severe strain on one’s psychological state, and Elite Force taps into that, while still delivering big on the action. Tomer Sisley leads the show as David, who leads a GIGN unit through a perilous mission, which forces David to confront his own tumultuous past.

As well as being one of the biggest, Elite Force is also one of the best action series on Netflix right now. The action scenes and shootouts are relentless, as the GIGN puts their elite skills to the test on every single mission. It might not be the most realistic military action thriller out there, but it’s far from the ridiculous Hollywood fantasy seen in shows like S.W.A.T.
Bizarrely, considering how popular it is on Netflix, Elite Force doesn’t actually have a Rotten Tomatoes rating, because not enough reviews have been submitted to the aggregate site. That’s the case for both the critics’ and the users’ reviews. Over on IMDb, it holds a 6.4 rating, but that’s shockingly low considering how well-crafted the series is.
GIGN’s Second Mission Remains a Mystery
Elite Force hasn’t officially been renewed for a second season yet. However, considering the immense success it has found on Netflix and the open-ended conclusion of the first season, a second outing is more than likely. Netflix will likely wait another two months for its patented 91-day viewership statistics to come through before making a final decision on Elite Force‘s future. But so far, things are looking promising.
