Halo is very much back at the forefront of the public consciousness right now, after the release of Campaign Evolved brought back the game that started it all in an entirely new light. The experience certainly proved that there is still plenty of appetite for the franchise as a whole, and hopefully that means that the next game in the series delivers in a big way.
While we wait for all of that, there is still plenty going on in the wider franchise as a whole, particularly if you’re a fan of the now-extensive lore associated with the IP. Now, there’s another release on the way relatively soon, and it could provide plenty of new stories that the next game could eventually get stuck into.
Over on Amazon, you should be able to find the pre-order page for Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, a new paperback release from author Eric Nylund that covers a fascinating part of the lore, straight after the Spartan program was revealed to the general public.
The page also shares a brief blurb on the story, so fans can know what to expect going in:
“The twenty-sixth century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored super-soldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. We don’t have information on when exactly in the timeline the next game will be set, but they have previously been unafraid of heading back to earlier key points (like Halo: Wars and Halo: Reach). It would certainly be interesting to see the fight against the Covenant in its earliest throes, but equally, there are plenty of opportunities for great entries further down the timeline as well.
As mentioned earlier, Halo: Ghosts of Onyx is currently available for pre-order, with delivery expected to go ahead on November 11. That is subject to change, though most of the more recent Halo novel releases have pretty consistently arrived when stated.
