Paul W. Downs was one of the co-creators of Hacks and has revealed that he “would love” to do a spinoff based on his character, Jimmy LaSaque Jr., and Meg Stalter‘s Kayla Schaefer.
While visiting Andy Cohen’s clubhouse on Watch What Happens Live, Downs was asked if there were any storylines he had to fight for and convince the team was a good idea.
“What happened more often was that there would be stories for Jimmy and Kayla that didn’t happen because they didn’t really make sense but were really funny,” Downs said on the Bravo late-night talk show.
Cohen followed up and asked if there was any interest in a spinoff, to which Stalter said, “We do, but we’re not going to.”
Downs added, “I think we would love to do it, but we also want to leave the show as it is. It does feel like the ending- it was hard to land the plane, and now that we have landed the plane, it’s like, ‘Let’s leave it like that.’”
Downs played Jimmy, the manager for Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder’s Ava Daniels, while Stalter played Jimmy’s assistant.
Back in May, following the Hacks series finale, Stalter told Deadline she was open to a spinoff centered around Jimmy and Kayla.
“I feel like the fans want a spinoff,” she said during the Las Culturistas Culture Awards red carpet. “I’d literally show up anytime. I would delete the songs.”
When the topic of possibly starting a petition to request a spinoff came up, Stalter joked, “I think people need to be more aggressive.”
