Jamie Lee Curtis is only telling her truth—no lies.
The True Lies actress shared her candid thoughts about guest starring on the “very funny” TV show New Girl, on which she appeared as Zooey Deschanel’s mom in six episodes between 2012 and 2018.
“I did a single-camera [show], which I hated,” Curtis said Aug. 10 at NBCUniversal’s Summer Backlot Experience, as seen in video captured by Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a good show, but doing it is just like doing a movie. You’ve got a camera crew, and nobody laughs. It’s silent and it’s awful. For me, awful.”
Indeed, the 68-year-old emphasized her disdain was rooted in the structure of the show—which lacked a studio audience due to its set and its use of a single camera for filming—and wasn’t because of the comedy’s cast, which also include Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson and Hannah Simone.
As the Oscar winner put it, “Single-camera comedies, for me, not fun.”
That’s why Curtis has fond memories starring in the multi-camera sitcom Anything But Love, a gig she recently called her “favorite job ever.”
