A new era is on its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
While the MCU timeline has been busy focusing on alternative universes and variants since 2021, Marvel Studios is getting ready for a very different saga after 2027. As the mutants are set to take a bigger spotlight, Phase 6 brought one of them to life in Peter Parker’s summer adventure.
In a full post-Spider-Man: Brand New Day interview with Vanity Fair, Sadie Sink was asked about the recent reporting of Kit Connor having been tapped to play Cyclops in the new X-Men reboot. The Stranger Things alum responded with, “Did he? There’s always the rumors, and I just never know what’s official.”
Sink also made it clear that as casting is underway on the ensemble film, she hasn’t done any testing, at least not in a large way. The actress elaborated, “It’s a little bit separate. So I’m finding out through [director] Jake [Schreier]. There’s also so many online rumors, but it’s coming together. I think the timing of it is so exciting, and the way they planned it out is really clever just with introducing one of the mutants, a very important mutant through Spider-Man. I think a great cast is coming together, and I think people are going to be really excited about it when it’s all announced.”
As of writing, Marvel Studios and Disney have not confirmed or denied Connor’s Cyclops casting. The same goes for Samara Weaving being hired to play Emma Frost in the new reboot.
Sink brought Jean Grey into the MCU this summer, as the young X-Men member was trying to save her sister from the Department of Damage Control. Following a rivalry against Spider-Man, Jean ends up saving Peter’s life before she leaves New York.
When Might The X-Men Cast Be Confirmed?
While there have been numerous reports and rumors about actors who are being eyed for the X-Men movie, many are speculating that a huge announcement could be coming as early as this week. D23 is set to take place between August 14 and August 16, with Marvel expected to have multiple updates during their presentation.
Even though no details have been shared yet about what titles will be highlighted, X-Men would make perfect sense to highlight at D23. Sink confirmed that she is filming the big ensemble project in 2027 in the same Vanity Fair interview, addressing that “We’ll shoot X-Men, and then I’m going to do a series with FX and A24 called The Marriage Plot, so that’ll be next year.”
If Marvel Studios truly has their main players signed on at this point, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the X-Men cast take the stage at D23, which would be the first time they are all together. Not only would it finally give audience members some clarity on who is actually in this film, but it would also hopefully shed some light on plot details, as nothing is currently known about Jake Schreier’s vision for the iconic superhero group.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters while Marvel Studios’ X-Men has yet to land a release date.
