Jack Reacher‘s strength and size make him seem superhuman, but he is far from indestructible, and there are several action TV characters who would be up to the task. As one of Prime Video’s best action TV shows, the series had some bone-crunching combat scenes that make the most of Alan Ritchson’s height and size, while revealing more of Reacher’s varied skills with each season. Reacher’s military backstory has made him formidable, but despite being an expert strategist, great marksman, and excellent fighter, other characters have abilities that he lacks, making them stronger in other ways.
Reacher’s physical strength makes him difficult to overpower, with season 1 showing him breaking out of cable ties, taking on a room full of men sent to kill him, and season 3 giving us one of the best Reacher action sequences when he faced the enormous bodyguard Paulie. However, there is more to winning a fight than brute strength, and while street brawling is a skill, Reacher often relies too much on his own physicality. If he was set against characters with an entirely new approach to combat, the action TV icon could discover weaknesses he didn’t know he had.
B. A. Baracus – The A Team
When presenting characters who could stand a chance against Jack Reacher in combat, one of the most obvious answers is The A-Team‘s B. A. Baracus. Despite The A-Team and Reacher having drastic differences in tone, with The A-Team relying on cartoonish larger-than-life sequences and Reacher feeling grittier, the two characters are remarkably similar in many ways. Like Reacher, Baracus is a military-trained fighter with a towering presence and a direct approach to problems. If Reacher cheated by getting Baracus on a plane and exploiting his fear of flying, he might have an easier win.
On the other hand, Baracus’ mechanical genius could give him the edge in a location like a factory or a car, in which he could fix an existing weapon. Otherwise, the two are well-matched, and assuming this is hand-to-hand combat, their fight might resemble the best scenes in Reacher season 3, when he and Paulie face each other, and it would be a spectacle worth seeing. Reacher’s bone-snapping precision punches work when he hits his stride, but if Baracus got in early with harder hits, he could weaken his larger adversary enough to beat him, as he has done before.
Michael Scofield – Prison Break
Prison Break‘s resident prodigy is underestimated for most of the show’s first season, and while fighting is not counted among his many strengths, he has one significant advantage that could make him stronger than Reacher. Michael Scofield is a structural engineer capable of reducing walls to rubble with just a few well-planned strikes. Reacher’s talent for strategy might extend to drawing enemies out of their comfort zones and shooting first with precision, but when it comes to building and blueprints, Michael has an advantage even Reacher could not anticipate.
Reacher’s fight with Paulie proved that strength was not his best asset, as he won by outsmarting the bodyguard. However, Prison Break proved that Michael can use any location as a weapon, trapping opponents between walls and engineering controlled chaos that gives him layers of protection before a fight starts. Reacher might know all the ways out of a building, but Michael likely created the blueprints for the same building, and knows how to break in. If Reacher fought Michael, he would not just be facing a man, but a series of traps, and maybe even the building itself.
Billy Butcher – The Boys
Pitting Reacher against characters with superpowers would be a different story entirely, but even before Billy Butcher’s tentacle transformation, he stood more than a chance against him, and against the odds. Reacher has been taught how to fight, with his military expertise giving him technical skills and the ability to think quickly. However, the vast majority of the adversaries we have seen Reacher battling have a method to their madness and a strategy for him to uncover. As the least stable member of the core group in The Boys, Butcher does not always have either.
Butcher is unpredictable, with a high pain tolerance, and he lacks the care that others characters have, being willing to take down everything around him in pursuit of an enemy. While this does not automatically give Butcher an edge over the more disciplined Reacher, it allows him to go where other fighters might not. Reacher’s strength might make no sense at times, with the character surviving virtually-impossible situations, but he still has a sense of self-preservation. However, Butcher does not always share this, being willing to die as long as he takes his opponent with him.
Chozen – Cobra Kai
To paraphrase the legendary martial arts star, Bruce Lee, a person who has practiced one kick 10,000 times is more dangerous than a person who has practiced 10,000 kicks once. Jack Reacher might be formidable at all-round combat, but martial arts is another skill entirely. Of all the ways a character could be stronger than Reacher, adopting a style that turns size into a disadvantage is surely top of the list. Cobra Kai is not only one of the best martial arts shows of all time, but it has shown us several characters whose skills are better than Reacher’s.
Chozen has a massive advantage over Reacher when it comes to speed and agility. Reacher can absorb hits better than the average person, but Chozen’s ability to target pressure points with precision and devastating effect could render Reacher helpless if the right sequence is hit. Chozen could outperform him in a typical Cobra Kai-style sparring match, but if the fight was more serious, Chozen’s ability to paralyze an opponent could take down Reacher in an embarrassingly short amount of time.
Xena – Xena: Warrior Princess
Xena’s strength is as legendary as Reacher’s, with the iconic action character performing equivalent physically impressive feats. Reacher might take down a team of enemies, but Xena can defeat an army of them. Reacher might lift cars, but Xena can lift chariots. As Reacher’s personal code allows him to fight a woman if she is actively trying to kill him, the terms of a match between them might have to be much higher-stakes than they needed to be. If so, he barely stands a chance against Xena, who routinely takes down fantasy monsters and giant men.
On the other hand, a friendly match between Reacher and Xena might be more interesting, appealing to Xena’s sense of fun and pride, while likely making Reacher uncomfortable. Neither character tires easily, and assuming they are engaged in hand-to-hand combat rather than seeing Reacher cheating by drawing a gun on the Ancient Greek warrior princess, they are surprisingly evenly matched. That said, Xena’s agility would make her the winner after what could be a drawn-out match with plenty of quips and witty retorts.
The Father
Taking the main characters in The Night Agent into account, it is almost certain that Reacher could physically outmatch all of them, but one character might not be as easy to defeat. Stephen Moyer’s mysterious assassin known only as The Father is proficient in using many kinds of weaponry as well as being inventive, turning situations to his advantage and walking away unscathed. It is likely that Reacher’s moral code would make him unwilling to take on such an unassuming character, but The Father is one of the most dangerous adversaries in The Night Agent.

While Reacher famously has few weaknesses, little is known about The Father, making it difficult for Reacher to strategize. The only pressure point he appears to have is his son, and Reacher would undoubtedly be reluctant to use this, especially in a simple low-stakes sparring match. That said, the outcome of such a match would depend on The Father’s instructions. If Reacher was, in fact, marked for assassination, he would likely lose to The Father’s years of experience and calm detachment from his targets, which make him stronger when it comes to completing the mission, no matter what.
