President Donald Trump on Sunday announced Will Scharf, one of his go-to aides, will become the new White House counsel.
The president said Scharf will enter the new role in September and will be replacing David Warrington, one of Trump’s personal attorneys who later joined his administration at the start of his second term.
Trump posted on Truth Social:
I know Will well! He previously represented me in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during the Biden Administration’s corrupt and illegal campaign of Weaponization. He also previously served as a Federal Prosecutor, worked as an attorney in private practice, clerked for two Federal Appeals Court Judges, and was a top student at both Princeton University, and Harvard Law School.
Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law. Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!
Trump added Warrington will be returning to the private sector.
The Wall Street Journal noted Scharf has held several roles inside the Trump White House, “but might be best known publicly as the man who frequently presents executive orders to the president for his signature in the Oval Office.
Scharf has served as the chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission since last year, where he has overseen Trump’s new White House ballroom and other construction projects. He is also the White House staff secretary; Trump said in his Truth Social announcement Scharf has done an “amazing job” in both roles.
The announcement comes a day after Trump’s pick for attorney general, Todd Blanche, was confirmed by the Senate.
Scharf closed out his time as Trump’s staff secretary by presenting him with executive orders aiming to stop “birth tourism.” The orders bar people born to members of “federally declared terrorist groups” and “children born of mothers who expressly and deceptively enter the U.S.” from becoming citizens, among a few other examples.
