White House lawyer-turned-fierce Trump critic Ty Cobb told Zeteo’s Mehdi Hasan the United States is “screwed” now that Todd Blanche is attorney general.
Blanche was confirmed by the narrowest of margins at 4 a.m. on Saturday, with 50 senators voting in favor, and 49 against.
On Zeteo’s Mehdi Unfiltered podcast, Hasan asked, “Is there any world in which Todd Blanche stands up to Trump if he’s asked to find some fake evidence of voter fraud, or are we screwed now?”
“We’re screwed,” Cobb answered bluntly.
Cobb referenced fears that President Donald Trump plans to interfere in the midterm elections and have Blanche, his former personal attorney, suppress votes or pressure states to “find” enough ballots to put Trump-backed candidates over the top.
“How bad is the corruption right now in your view?” Hasan asked.
“Idi Amin, you know, Putin, those people,” Cobb said, referencing the corrupt former Ugandan dictator, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The reality is, they’re pikers compared to what Trump is doing,” Cobb said. “He’s always been a malignant narcissist, but that narcissism now has no frontal lobe restraint.”
The “frontal lobe” crack refers to critics’ claims that the president is suffering from frontotemporal dementia brought about by poor health and old age that inhibits cognition impulse control.
“In your view, is it a bit naive for those Republican hold outs to have taken the DOJ at their word?” Hasan asked about the senators demanding Blanche guarantee in writing that he was doing away with Trump’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund.”
“Because how likely is it that Donald Trump does some version of a slush fund anyway going forward? Pays out some of these people anyway?” Hasan asked.
“I think that’s a virtual certainty,” Cobb answered, continuing:
I think Blanche has demonstrated total fealty to the president. Actually, renewed ground to be concerned about his devotion to the president over the rule of law were solidified yesterday when he alerted all the U.S. attorneys’ offices in the country that the U.S. attorneys were bound to follow whatever Trump’s edicts were, notwithstanding in cases where historical, ethical obligations may have been as they perceive them. So, I think it’s almost certain that the president will continue his passionate effort to rewrite history and make the Jan. 6 thugs heroes in his version of history.
