Black Woman Hit By Car Driven By Two Brothers, Ages 4 And 7

The loved ones of a woman hit by a car driven by two brothers, ages 4 and 7, have revealed she will spend the rest of her life recovering from the accident.

Kiara Bowling was walking a dog on the sidewalk on 35th Avenue in Oakland on Thursday, Aug. 6, when she was struck by a Toyota sedan driven by the young children, reported ABC7 Eyewitness News. Her family told the outlet that she suffered a brain bleed, facial fractures, and will require multiple surgeries.

According to a GoFundMe created to raise money for Bowling’s medical expenses from the injuries she sustained in the incident, she faces “a long and difficult road ahead.”

“Kiara is facing a lifelong recovery and will need continued care far beyond the immediate aftermath of the accident,” states the fundraiser description. “Donations will help with medical bills, ongoing medical support, transportation to appointments, physical therapy, and other surgeries Kiara may need along the way.”

As of Sunday, Aug. 9, the GoFundMe has reached more than $62,500 of its $90,000 goal, which was created “to help Kiara through the challenges that follow such a traumatic event and to make sure support is there during this painful and uncertain time,” per the description, adding, “Every contribution, no matter the size, can help ease some of the burden and allow Kiara to focus on healing and recovery.”

An update to the GoFundMe on Saturday, Aug. 8, added, “GOD IS STILL GOOD. Thank you for your love, support and prayers” and also included a photo of Bowling, who is in her early 30s, wearing a Miss California Regency International 2026 sash as she recently won the pageant.

Bowling, a final-year student at California State University East Bay, had returned to Oakland after completing a summer program at Yale for her J.D., per ABC7 Eyewitness News. She is currently being treated at Highland Hospital.

At around 9:30 a.m. local time on Thursday, the collision occurred several blocks from the home of the 4-year-old and 7-year-old brothers. The sedan they were driving sideswiped another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and lost control, striking Bowling near 35th Avenue and Mangels Avenue, the Oakland police previously told PEOPLE.

Authorities said that the parents of the brothers are cooperating with the investigation to determine how the boys were able to access the vehicle and drive away. Both boys were also taken to the hospital. Their uncle, Ali, told ABC7 Eyewitness News that the 7-year-old broke both legs and the 4-year-old suffered a concussion.

“I pray that she’s okay, but it was bad,” witness Lavelle Shah-Marquis told the news station.
