French-American actor Christopher Lambert was hospitalised after suffering a medical emergency at a convention.
The 69-year-old is best known for playing Connor MacLeod in Highlander (1986) and its sequels, as well as Tarzan in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984).
He was meeting adoring fans at Steel City Con in Pittsburgh this weekend when he fell ill, having been signing autographs when he ‘suddenly collapsed’, according to a witness.
The Mortal Kombat star was then whisked away from the convention hall and taken to hospital via ambulance, TMZ reports.
Even organisers later took to Facebook to confirm he had left, writing: ‘Christopher Lambert had to leave the event due to a personal issue.
‘Return time TBD. Photo op cancelled.’
Concerned commenters wished for his speedy recovery, with Scott Green saying he ‘hopes it’s nothing serious’ and Judy Rosenfeld-Wisniewski adding: ‘We met him earlier. I knew he wasn’t feeling well and had a cold. Prayers he is ok.’
‘I was getting an autograph from him when it happened. I hope he’s going to be okay,’ Beth Monroe also wrote, adding that it was ‘scary’ to watch.
Fortunately, Lambert’s reps said he is ‘perfectly OK’ and resting in his hotel.
They claim his blood sugar dropped due to a lack of sleep the night before and not eating much that day, resulting in his fainting.
After some downtime, the convention announced that he would be back for its second day, sharing on social media: ‘Christopher Lambert will be attending Sunday. He will be there at 11:30 AM.’
Lambert is due to attend the FAN EXPO Chicago next week, which his team insists he will also be well enough to do.
This is not his first health scare in recent years, as last March, Lambert suffered a ‘serious accident’.
He fell down the stairs at his hotel, which forced him to abruptly withdraw from his scheduled appearance at Swedish sci-fi convention SciFi World.
Lambert had to undergo physical therapy for his back injury just weeks before filming began for his latest project, Tulipomania.
His team added he wasn’t ‘allowed to travel or move for one month, according to his doctor’.
Additionally, Lambert has severe myopia, a vision condition (also known as nearsightedness) that causes close objects to look clear but far objects to look blurry.
He cannot see without his glasses but cannot wear contact lenses, meaning he often has to perform scenes virtually blind, which has led to injuries during his own stunts in the past.
The leading man became somewhat of a cultural icon thanks to the international success of the Highlander franchise, in which he was cast as an immortal Scottish swordsman.
Speaking in 2018, he shared: ‘New generations keep being introduced to the movie. All these years later, it is still a cult film.
‘I think that’s down to the vision of the director and the incredible soundtrack by Queen.’
He added to the Daily Record that the project holds ‘good memories’ for him.
‘I love Scotland, and I loved making Highlander there. The people are so grounded, and what you see is what you get. If they don’t like you, they tell you. They just chatted to me, and people are interesting if you’re willing to listen.’
Beyond his signature role, Lambert’s decades-spanning career has involved parts in various action, thriller, and science fiction films.
In French-speaking countries, he is credited as Christophe Lambert.
His most recent screen appearances were 2025’s The Creeps and 2024 Italian comedy Falla Girare 2.
And, in 2023, he lent his voice and likeness to a Raiden skin in Mortal Kombat 1.
While he is still active in the industry, his acting work has taken a slight backseat now, but he’s often found at conventions, meeting fans.
