Manoj Bajpayee’s Governor Tops Prime Video India Streaming Charts

Manoj Bajpayee’s latest film, Governor, has claimed the No. 1 position on Prime Video’s overall movie trending charts in India following its transition from the platform’s rental service to standard streaming. Backed by Sunshine Pictures and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film is set against the 1991 financial crisis and highlights an unsung figure whose decisions helped navigate a period of severe economic uncertainty.

Directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, Governor originally debuted in theaters, where it earned recognition for its realistic portrayal of a pivotal chapter in India’s economic history. Following its theatrical run, the project entered the digital space via Prime Video’s transactional video-on-demand service. During its initial rental period, the film climbed to the top of the Rent Charts, outperforming several high-profile international titles.

Once made accessible to all Prime Video subscribers, Governor maintained its strong digital momentum by rising to the top spot on the platform’s primary movie charts. Bajpayee’s central performance drives the narrative, grounding the complex political and financial turmoil in a personal human story.

The film features a screenplay co-written by Suvendu Bhattacharjee, Saurabh Bharat, Ravi Asrani, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A. Shah serving as co-producer. The soundtrack is composed by Amit Trivedi, featuring lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. Following its success in theaters and on rental platforms, Governor continues to expand its audience reach across the streaming landscape.
