GAVIN Rossdale has revealed the man who ‘shaped his future’ has died.
In an emotional post, Bush front man Gavin, 60, penned a tribute to Peter Katsis, the legendary band manager, who passed away this week from congestive heart failure aged 69.
Peter managed rock and grunge bands such as Jane’s Addiction, The Smashing Pumpkins and Morrissey – as well as Gavin’s band Bush.
Sharing a series of personal photographs with his friend, Gavin wrote: “Yesterday we lost our visionary, our leader and our most great friend: PK Katsis – a mountain of a man and an ocean of support of love.
“It’s hard to write these words as if it’s being complicit in his finality – I would do anything to reverse the terrible absoluteness of it all.”
He continued: “No more daily calls, no more feedback, no more raucous laughter, no coming offstage to you, no more dinners, no more flights, no more tequila, no more belonging.”
Bush – known for hits like Glycerine, Machinehead and Everything Zenformed – formed in 1992, splitting 10 years later, reforming again in 2010.
While Gavin took on other projects on the side – such as his stint as a coach on The Voice UK in 2017 – Bush had been actively performing and making music with Peter as their manager for the best part of the last decade, with Gavin crediting him for their recent success.
“Peter began managing us some 8 years ago,” he continued. “We seemed on a road to nowhere or the city of round and round, stuck on a wheel of fortune that seemed low on batteries.
“He surrounded us with great people – he shaped a future for us that is now here.
“It’s a mean fact that he has left the building – I feel sick at writing this, again as if any tribute adds to the cold fact he has gone.
“I don’t look forward to a world without him – there’s an emptiness that is like a magnet to the center of the earth.
“He was more to me than just my manager – he believed in me in ways no one does – there was simply nobody I was closer to.
“So he has left a crater size hole in my heart.”
On moving forward without him, Gavin added: “As a band we will continue to shoot for the stars he wanted for us – we will continue his legacy with songs and shows and quality which is everything that defined him.
“Peter, thank you for every single thing you did for me, the band and my family.
“You will be desperately missed by so many – I’m just one of a whole bunch of brilliant people behind the scenes ,in front of the camera, onstage or at the chateau.
“Love you buddy – miss you so much.”
Gavin’s touching words were echoed in the comments, with daughter Daisy Lowe writing: “You’ll always be making him proud xxx love you dad xxx”
Peter had an impressive 35 years in music management, also guiding the careers of Korn, 30 Seconds to Mars, Snoop Dogg, One Republic, Limp Bizkit, Enrique Iglesias and the Backstreet Boys.
