There’s talk around town that minimalism and quiet luxury are on their way out, which might sound scary to those of us who prefer simple outfit ideas. It seems the fashion girls on Instagram got the memo, at least, because my feed is becoming increasingly filled with more colorful and playful looks. Still, I’m holding on to my black crewnecks and classic trousers. I don’t believe that an entire aesthetic can ever be in or out. Style is a form of expression, a reflection of your inner being, and doesn’t float away with every gust of wind.
That doesn’t mean I can’t be influenced by the new artistic direction fashion is taking, though. Fall is a great time to embrace a little more whimsy before we hibernate into our stuffy gray layers come winter, and it is possible to stay true to your personal style while pushing yourself creatively. In fact, I curated a week’s worth of simple outfit ideas for fall that are easy—but not boring.
The key to perfecting these looks was incorporating just one unique silhouette, color, or pattern into the outfit. (Or zesty basics, as we call them here at Glamour.) That’s opting for barrel-leg jeans over a straight-leg pair, or an organza top with dramatic sleeves instead of a plain white tee, while keeping the rest minimal. Below you’ll find a week of easy, nonfussy outfit ideas that still look impactful that you can return to again and again this fall.
