There’s no doubt that the PlayStation 5 is an absolute beast of a console, and alongside the Xbox Series X, it’s just about as powerful as home consoles have ever been. That obviously opens up a world of possibilities for new games to really blow us out of the water, but it also has the knock-on effect of allowing relatively easy upgrades to existing titles.
We have obviously seen plenty of remasters and remakes, but on a simpler level than that, plenty of games have seen more minor upgrades that take advantage of the increased hardware capabilities of the console. Now, another has just gone live, and it resurrects one of the more underrated games of the 2010s.
An Underrated Ubisoft Game Is Getting An Upgrade
As first reported by PushSquare, Ghost Recon Wildlands, the 2017 third-person shooter from developer Ubisoft, is about to get a native PS5 upgrade, that adds 4k resolution and 60 FPS. The update is scheduled to go live today (August 6), and it should automatically apply to your game next time you go to play it.
This revelation comes thanks to a leaked PS Store listing, which also confirms support for 3D audio, DualSense haptic feedback, and faster loading times that take advantage of the SSD.
Outside of that, there is also plenty going on around the game more generally, with a free play period also opening up from today until August 10. Any progress you make during that time will be transferred across to the full game if you decide to commit to the purchase, with Wildlands currently discounted on the PS Store to $4.99/£4.49 as part of Sony’s Summer Sale until August 12.
In addition, there’s a new, free mission that has been added for players to complete in Last Rites, and you can play all of it at no additional cost if you’re a PS Plus Extra subscriber.
There’s no doubt that Wildlands was an underwhelming effort at launch, but subsequent patches and continued support have actually made it a really solid genre experience.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands Is Well Worth Your Time
As for what’s next for the Ghost Recon series, we know that there is another game in development and on the way relatively soon with the current codename Project Over. That will supposedly discard the third-person camera in favor of the highly realistic approach taken by games like Ready or Not, in what could easily be a really exciting next step for the remarkably well-liked franchise.
