‘Disgusting’: Colorado Dems Condemn ‘Antisemitic’ Attack on Gubernatorial Candidate

New campaign literature boosting the highly controversial Republican candidate for governor of Colorado, Victor Marx, raised eyebrows on Tuesday and drew accusations of anti-Semitism from critics.

A flyer made by a Colorado county official showed Democratic Party nominee Phil Weiser with horns under the title, “The Next Threat to Colorado.” The flyer also called Weiser, who is Jewish, part of a “radical extreme” that is “dangerous for Colorado.”

Local Colorado 9News anchor Kyle Clark, who has covered Marx closely, shared the flyer on social media and added, “Depicting Jewish people with horns is a centuries-old, dehumanizing, antisemitic trope. Democratic Gov nominee Phil Weiser is outspoken about his mother’s birth in a Nazi concentration camp, his family members killed in the Holocaust, and the threat posed by antisemitism today.”

Clark reached out to the flyer’s creator and reported, “Montrose County Commissioner and Fmr US Senate GOP primary candidate Sean Pond, who created the horned image of Phil Weiser circulating in various forms among Colorado Republicans, tells me he was unaware Weiser is Jewish.”

“There was no reference to Jewish people, no religious message, no dog whistle, and no hidden meaning. Phil Weiser does not receive immunity from political satire because of a personal fact I did not even know,” Pond said to Clark in a statement.

Colorado’s Democratic Party also condemned the image, writing on X, “This is disgusting and antisemitic. Victor Marx and every Republican must denounce this now.”

Marx has drawn national attention for the wild claims about his past, which include that he killed and disclosed the number of people. Marx runs a ministry in the state that claims to rescue endangered children and Christians from overseas. Clark has previously reported on Marx’s ministry and previewed some of the reporting by writing that it “pitches his exorcisms as the solution for homosexuality, murder, even low self-esteem. I reviewed 100+ hours of Marx’s sermons and speaking gigs for an in-depth look at the demon hunter who wants to be Colorado’s Governor.”
