Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) launched into a profanity-laced response Monday when asked why it took so long to publicly disavow his son-in-law, Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), after Moreno’s daughter accused him of domestic abuse.

Last week, Emily Moreno accused Miller, her ex-husband, of physically and emotionally abusing her throughout their marriage, alleging he threw hot water on her, held a gun to her head, shoved her into a wall, and fractured their daughter’s collarbone. Miller has strongly denied the allegations and has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife.

On Friday, the Ohio senator told a NOTUS reporter, “I don’t know,” when asked if Miller is fit to stand for reelection. Yet on Sunday, he finally made a much longer statement, calling the situation “horrific,” describing Miller’s behavior as “increasingly erratic and dangerous,” recommending “serious psychological help,” and declaring the congressman “should not serve in the House of Representatives.”

Semafor’s Burgess Everett posted on X that while speaking with reporters Monday, Moreno “basically [told] reporters to back off on Max Miller,” adding, “He didn’t like being asked by one reporter why it took him so long to put out his statement.”

Here, Everett seems to be referring to a question asked by CNN’s Ellis Kim. A more comprehensive explanation of the inquiry was posted by NBC News’ Frank Thorp V, who wrote that Kim asked “why it took so long to issue a statement” on Miller.

“You know, I hope you never have to go through a situation like this, and you wouldn’t ask that kind of f*cking question,” Moreno responded, according to Thorp.

When Everett asked why he thinks Miller hasn’t yet taken his advice to resign, Moreno allegedly responded, “You’ll have to ask him,” adding, “Look, guys, this is about my personal family situation,” and calling the matter “grotesque.”
