Vogue Williams has confessed she couldn’t have been more wrong about her now-husband Spencer Matthews, admitting she initially dismissed him as ‘that gobs***e on the show’ before they ever met.

The presenter, 40, revealed her first impression of the former Made In Chelsea star was shaped entirely by his reality TV reputation – only to discover he was ‘nothing like’ she expected when they were paired together on Channel 4’s The Jump in 2017.

Speaking on her Vogue and Amber podcast, Vogue was asked whether she’d ever completely changed her opinion of a celebrity.

Her answer came immediately: ‘Well, yes, Spen,’ she laughed.

‘Before I met him, I was like, “Oh God, that gobs***e on the show.”

‘That’s honestly what I thought before I met him. I heard he was on The Jump when I was doing it.’

Recalling her reaction, she added: ‘I literally remember being like arghh.’

That opinion didn’t last very long: ‘I got on with him like a house on fire from the day that I met him and he was nothing like what I thought he would be like,’ she said.

‘He was really sound and really funny and charming and nice.

‘From then I was like, “God, I really shouldn’t judge people that I don’t know because I probably end up liking them.”‘

It’s quite the turnaround considering Spencer’s reputation at the time.

During his Made In Chelsea days, the 37-year-old became known for his hard-partying lifestyle and chaotic love life – an image that’s a world away from the ultra-endurance athlete, podcast host and father-of-three fans know today.

The pair married just over a year after meeting, tying the knot in June 2018 before welcoming sons Theodore and Otto and daughter Gigi. They are now expecting their fourth child together.

It’s also not the first time Vogue has admitted she completely misread her future husband.

Speaking to The Sun. last year, she revealed her opinion of Spencer had been even harsher before they met.

‘I kind of met him with a preconceived idea, and I was like, “I’m not going to like him” because I thought he was a sociopath,’ she said.

‘But after I met him, I loved his personality straight away… he was so sound.’

Despite hitting it off instantly, romance wasn’t initially on Vogue’s mind. ‘I was being really good at being single and I wanted to stay single, so I thought, “He’s going to be a really good friend” – that’s the first thing I thought,’ she explained.

Fast-forward eight years and the couple have become one of showbusiness’s most enduring pairings, regularly sharing candid glimpses of family life through their podcasts and social media.

Earlier this week, Vogue gave fans another update on her fourth pregnancy, sharing photos of herself enjoying a seaside holiday in Spain while showing off her growing baby bump in a black bikini.

It seems the man she once couldn’t wait to avoid has become the one she can’t imagine life without.
