MISSY Elliott fans have only just sussed out details about the lyrics to her hit song Work It – 24 years after the song came out.
The rapper and singer-songwriter, 55, released Work It back in September 2002.
In the song, Missy sings the lyrics: “Is it worth it, let me work it, I put my thing down, flip it, and reverse it.”
The next line initially appears to be a totally nonsensical stream of letters: “Ti esrever dna ti pilf nwod gniht ym tup I.”
However, it has now been uncovered that it’s actually the previous line in reverse.
On the I Said I’m Sorry podcast, host Yaz Haddad told co-host Feras Basal: “You remember the song from Missy Elliott?”

He began singing the ‘Is it worth it’ line, before adding: “I picked up that the next line is everything reversed that she just said.”
A surprised Feras responded: “That’s not just gibberish?”
To which Yaz replied: “No, that’s her going. I put my thing down, flip it, and reverse it. And then she reverses that whole line.”
Feras was still in disbelief, as he asked: “Shut the hell up. Is it actually?”
Yaz sang the supposedly nonsense lyric, then flipped it to demonstrate the point.
This revealed the lyric truly is “I put my thing down, flip it, and reverse it” in reverse order.
Left gobsmacked, one fan commented: “I was today years old when I found out.”
Another said: “Aaaaaaaaah blow my mind!!!”
While a third chimed in: “That just fried my brain.”
