ST. LOUIS – A heat advisory begins Sunday in the St. Louis region with dangerous heat expected over the next few days.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of Greater Metropolitan St. Louis from 11 a.m. Sunday to 9 p.m. Monday.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 90s on Sunday and Monday, most likely between 95 and 98 degrees on both days. Heat indices – the “feels-like temperature” – will likely peak in the 100s or 110s on both days.
Some spot storms Monday could provide relief by Tuesday, where temperatures are more likely to peak in the low 90s. That could set the stage for relatively seasonal high temperatures, in the high 80s, for the rest of the work week.
The National Weather Service issues a “heat advisory” when hot temperatures or high humidity make outdoor conditions dangerous and could pose the risk of heat-related illnesses for some individuals.
If you plan activities outside, make sure to wear light clothing, limit the time of high sun-exposure activities, use plenty of sunscreen, and have a plan to stay hydrated. Also consider outdoor activities in the early-morning or evening hours.
Also be sure to watch for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke (in the graphic below) and limit dog walks on hot concrete when possible.
