Photo by Juan Manuel Blanco\/EPA&#13;\n                                            <\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><span class=\"story_dl\">July 17 (UPI) &#8212;<\/span> A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the Mexico-Guatemala coast in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, being felt as far as El Salvador.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said there were no casualties or major damage from the quake.\n<\/p>\n<p>The epicenter was located some 36 miles off the coast of the Mexican state of Chiapas, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/earthquake.usgs.gov\/earthquakes\/map\/?currentFeatureId=us7000t1bu&amp;extent=10.88805,-93.04321&amp;extent=18.1153,-88.13232\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Geological Survey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Four people were injured in Chiapas, and authorities have also responded to reports of minor structural damage, <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2026\/07\/17\/americas\/mexico-earthquake-chiapas-intl-latam\" target=\"_blank\">CNN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Claudia Sheinbaum said emergency protocols were activated in several Mexican states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Authorities from all three levels of government are conducting inspections on the ground to assess any possible structural damage and coordinate preventive measures,&#8221; Sheinbaum <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Claudiashein\/status\/2078147124886200821\" target=\"_blank\">said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Guatemala, President Bernardo Arevalo said the quake caused landslides in the city of San Pedro La Laguna, but no major incidents were reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are already clearing the affected section and taking steps to ensure public safety,&#8221; Arevalo <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BArevalodeLeon\/status\/2078211022137987508\" target=\"_blank\">said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in El Salvador, where the tremor triggered evacuations, said no major damage was reported.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.
