Frankly, I can\u2019t think of another example of that happening before now. Just another landmark moment for this sleeper horror hit, a success that was clearly not predicted by its studio (since\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/06\/obsession-movie-4k-ultra-hd-release-vod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it\u2019s also now available on 4K<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 again,\u00a0<i>while still in theaters<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>So, you ask, how\u2019s the movie? Pretty damn interesting, especially as <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/05\/obsession-movie-curry-barker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a portrait of writer\/director Curry Barker\u2019s generation<\/a>. The premise is very simple and more than a little familiar: A young man wishes that the girl of his dreams would fall in love with him, and that wish comes true\u2026 much to his regret. Things get pretty damn horrific as a result, with star Inde Navarrette doing an incredible job of selling every layer of the terror involved.<\/p>\n<p>One note: There\u2019s no explicit animal violence, but there is a sequence involving a dead animal that nearly made me throw up in the theater. Filmed at the UCB Theater in New York,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wgolujI7-wc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">this is the latest<\/a>\u00a0in a series of improvised one-person shows Ratliff has been doing live, framed as an acting class but really evolving into so much more. As indicated by the title, this is technically meant for an audience of one, but watching Ratliff play with his craft in the moment is a fascinating meta exercise. If you have no idea what Burning Man is, the doc will explain, and if you\u2019re a longtime burner, you may be into this behind-the-scenes look at how the event has come together in the past and present. (But she only kills\u00a0<i>bad<\/i>\u00a0people, don\u2019t worry.) Basically, remember the movie\u00a0<i>Spy<\/i>? Yeah, it\u2019s kind of like that, except more of a dramedy than a comedy, and no Jason Statham. That\u2019s a shame, of course, but Waddingham and Spencer have fantastic friend chemistry, and the action is solid.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Blast From the Past<\/h2>\n<p><i>The home screens of streaming services are always packed with the latest new releases, but we don\u2019t spend enough time appreciating how much good library content is streaming across all of these platforms. But with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/07\/sam-neill-jurassic-park-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the sad passing of Sam Neill<\/a>, I wanted to switch things up \u2014 and while we decided not to include Arthurian legend in any of our picks for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/tag\/mythology-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mythology Week<\/a>, thematically the vibe endures here.<\/p>\n<p>The production of this miniseries is about what you\u2019d expect from a cable show made in the mid-90s (the CGI in particular is showing its age). However, that leads to an enjoyably camp vibe which only enhances this take on the wizard who advised King Arthur. As said wizard, Sam Neill dons some unfortunate old age makeup at a few points, but overall he\u2019s\u00a0<i>really<\/i>\u00a0good in it, that famous sly smile a perfect fit for his magical role.<\/p>\n<p>And the supporting cast is also packed with standouts including Isabella Rossellini playing Merlin\u2019s first love, Helena Bonham Carter as Morgan le Fay, and Miranda Richardson making some wild-ass vocal choices in her dual role as the Lady of the Lake and Queen Mab. At the end of the day, <i>Merlin<\/i> proves to be a sweet reminder that Neill was never less than 100% committed to any part he took on, and always seemed to enjoy the work.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">A Special Guest Recommends!<\/h2>\n<p><i>Liz isn\u2019t the only person in the world capable of suggesting stuff for people to watch\u2026 So each week, Stream On will now feature picks from a special guest! Patrick also co-hosts the podcast <i>Hey, That\u2019s Me!: A Commentary Podcast<\/i>, in which, he says, \u201cwe do audio commentaries on things with people who worked on them who never had the chance to do a commentary.\u201d As one recent example, they featured <i>Widow\u2019s Bay<\/i> cinematographer Christian Sprenger, <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/widows-bay-s1e3-the-inaugural-swim-2026-with\/id1784367929?i=1000776116237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">talking about Episode 3 of that Emmy-nominated series<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>What Do They Recommend?<\/b> Patrick\u2019s got a tasty trio of picks today:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">I would say the obvious thing right now is\u00a0<i><b>Widow\u2019s Bay<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(Apple TV). I haven\u2019t been this excited for a TV show in so long. It strikes such a tightwire of a tone that I have not seen on TV before, and the casting is superb, so many amazing comedians and cool, interesting character actors doing some of the best work of their career. It looks beautiful and has quickly, weirdly, become a comfort show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">Now is a great time for Apple TV, it seems like, because I\u2019m also super into <i><b>Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed<\/b><\/i> (Apple TV). I\u2019m a few episodes behind, so please do not send me spoilers, but anytime Tatiana Maslany is on TV, you can pretty much guarantee that the show is gonna rule. New York really is like a character in the show\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">Also, I\u2019m watching <b><i>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/i><\/b> (Paramount+) for the first time. That\u2019s streaming. It counts, right? Worf is cool.<\/p>\n<p>Worf <i>is<\/i> cool! (So it\u2019s a threesome, I guess.)
