href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/25\/us-news\/who-is-alberto-carvalho-lausd-superintendent-whose-home-office-was-raided-by-fbi\/\">Alberto Carvalho<\/a> \u2014 who last month resigned after <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/25\/us-news\/fbi-searching-lausd-superintendent-alberto-carvalhos-home-office\/\">dramatic FBI raids<\/a> of his home and offices \u2014 failed to report at least $107,000 he was paid in a lucrative side hustle, according to a shocking new report.<\/p>\n<p>The embattled ex- leader of the nation\u2019s second-largest district, who was drawing a salary in LA of $440,000, finally gave up his day job almost four months after he\u2019d <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/27\/us-news\/lausd-superintendent-alberto-carvalho-put-on-paid-leave-after-shocking-fbi-raids\/\">been placed on paid leave<\/a> by the LAUSD Board of Education in a unanimous vote.<\/p>\n<p>The disgraced educator resigned on June 21 \u2014 only after the LAUSD board threatened to dismiss him \u201cfor cause,\u201d because he failed to report travel and baseball tickets given to him by a tech vendor, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-06-27\/alberto-carvalho-lausd-superintendent-dismissal-threat-fbi\">a confidential letter<\/a> uncovered by the Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>New allegations have surfaced against Carvalho wrote in his resignation letter, which did not explicitly mention the FBI raids. \u201cPlacing students first has always guided my work.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Now, new allegations charge Carvalho with violating laws that may have required the leader of the $20.6 billion school district to disclose extra income.<\/p>\n<p>The veteran schools boss, who previously led Miami\u2019s public schools and was once named Superintendent of the Year, failed to report at least at least $107,000 he was paid for coaching the superintendent of Denver Public Schools, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2026\/07\/09\/alberto-carvalho-alex-marrero-denver-schools-coaching\/\">The Denver Post<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Agents were seen taking boxes of evidence from Carvalho\u2019s home.  <span class=\"credit\">FOX 11<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Carvalho\u2019s Palos Verdes home is up for sale.  <span class=\"credit\">California Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Carvalho drew the hefty sum beginning in mid-2022, for \u201cexecutive coaching\u201d services he provided to DPS superintendent Alex Marrero, first at a rate of $2,000 a month, then, starting the following year, at $3,000 a month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In all, Carvalho charged the\u00a0DPS at least $107,000 in invoices he submitted between November 2022 and January of this year, a period when Carvalho was also supposed to be leading LAUSD, according to contracts obtained by the news outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Marrero \u201cended his formal coaching relationship\u201d with Carvalho in February, DPS spokesman Bill Good told The Denver Post, after LAUSD put Carvalho on leave following the\u00a0stunning FBI raids on his Palos Verdes home\u00a0and district office.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Carvalho has kept a low profile since he was tight-lipped about the possible criminal charges the former superintendent may be facing but a source who\u2019s familiar with the investigation told the Post that federal investigators are still conducting their probe.<\/p>\n<p>Federal charges may be brought over nondisclosure of financial payments made to public officials such as Carvalho and they are most often overlap with other charges such as fraud, tax evasion or making false statements.<\/p>\n<p>Federal agents in February executed search warrants at Carvalho\u2019s San Pedro residence, LAUSD headquarters in downtown Los Angeles and a the Miami home of<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/26\/us-news\/woman-at-center-of-lausd-chief-scandal-is-bob-marley-guitarists-baby-mama-who-has-la-actor-son\/\">\u00a0Debra Kerr<\/a>, a former consultant with the tech firm AllHere who is tied to the investigation.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Carvalho has denied <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>AllHere\u2019s payment for a 2023 trip to the White House taken by Carvalho was flagged as an undisclosed financial benefit received by the former superintendent in the Board\u2019s letter warning him of his potential termination for just cause, according to The Times.<\/p>\n<p>The artificial-intelligence company developed a chatbot for the district that flatlined just weeks after its release.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s young founder, Joanna Smith-Griffin, was charged with fraud in 2024, just months after she joined Carvalho for a series of public events to kick off her company\u2019s $6 million AI chatbot deal with the district.<\/p>\n<p>The LAUSD board on June 24 replaced Carvalho with <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/24\/us-news\/lausd-rapidly-replaces-alberto-carvalho-with-andres-chait-amid-fbi-scandal\/\">the new superintendent<\/a> Andres Chait, a longtime Los Angeles educator who served as the district\u2019s provisional leader after Carvalho was placed on leave.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter attorneys, Carvalho has denied any wrongdoing.
