That year, his movie <em>Everybody Knows <\/em>screened in the Open Air program. He joins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/emily-watson-sarajevo-film-festival-jury-president-heart-1236619226\/\">fellow Honorary Heart recipient Emily Watson<\/a>, who is also serving as the fest\u2019s jury president in August.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt is difficult to overstate Asghar Farhadi\u2019s significance to world cinema,\u201d said Jovan Marjanovi\u0107, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival. \u201cHis remarkable body of work reminds us that the most profound dramas are often concealed within everyday life. His films do not offer easy answers; instead, they invite us to look more closely, listen more carefully and engage with life\u2019s complexities. We are honoured to welcome Farhadi back to the Festival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFarhadi was born in 1972 in Iran. He became interested in cinema when he was a teenager and started his filmmaking education by joining the Youth Cinema Society of Esfahan in 1986, where he made 8mm and 16mm short films. He devoted his final thesis at Tehran University to Harold Pinter, and in particular the importance of silence and pauses in the playwright\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHe made his directorial debut with <em>Dancing in the Dust<\/em> (2002). After the success of <em>About Elly<\/em> (2009), for which he won the Berlinale\u2019s Silver Bear for best director, Farhadi gained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\">international<\/a> recognition and critical acclaim with\u00a0A Separation (2011). It nabbed him the Oscar and C\u00e9sar for best foreign film. He then left Iran for France to shoot\u00a0The<em> Past <\/em>(2013), winning B\u00e9r\u00e9nice Bejo best actress in Cannes in 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFarhadi returned to Iran to direct <em>The Salesman <\/em>(2016), which earned its world premiere in competition at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and won best screenplay and best actor (Shahab Hosseini). The film became Farhadi\u2019s biggest success and earned him his second Academy Award.
