Decades later, the possibility exists for \u201cThe Menagerie\u201d to be updated within <em>Strange New Worlds<\/em>, where Anson Mount plays Pike.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Mitovich from <a href=\"https:\/\/mattmitovich.ghost.io\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-season-4-preview\/?ref=matts-inside-line-newsletter\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Matt\u2019s Inside Line<\/em><\/a> questioned Myers, who created <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> with fellow showrunner Akiva Goldsman, about this subject at today\u2019s Television Critics Association event. Myers\u2019 answer, as seen below, indicated that while <em>Strange New Worlds<\/em> revisiting \u201cThe Menagerie\u201d isn\u2019t off the table, it\u2019s been more important for him and the rest of the show\u2019s creative team to provide brand-new material for fans:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A key part of our journey sends us towards the things that we know are going to happen but hopefully, for all of our viewers, there will be some surprises that hit you along the way. Why should we show you the thing you already know? We want to show you the thing that you <em>don\u2019t<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe Menagerie\u201d utilized a large chunk of \u201cThe Cage\u201d for a frame story that saw Spock abducting a now-scarred and paralyzed Pike to take him back to Talos IV, and subsequently facing a court-martial for his actions. The two-part episode\u2019s past events took place years before what Mount\u2019s Pike went through in <em>Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> season 2. While <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> is also a prequel to <em>The Original Series<\/em>, there are still ways that the show could potentially put its own spin on the court-martial portion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-discovery-pike-future-tos-injuries\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pike learned in <em>Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> season 2<\/a> about the tragic fate that awaited him when he touched a time crystal on Boreth. As such, <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> could similarly look ahead to what happened in the \u201cpresent day\u201d storyline of \u201cThe Menagerie,\u201d which ended with Pike being allowed to live the rest of his life on Talos IV with Vina and the Talosians. This could be accomplished by Pike somehow experiencing another vision of the future, or as a more traditional flashforward.<\/p>\n<p> <em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em> previously ventured into <em>The Original Series<\/em> territory with its season 1 finale. <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/strange-new-worlds-balance-of-terror-changes\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cA Quality of Mercy\u201d depicted an alternate version of \u201cBalance of Terror\u201d<\/a> where Pike was still captain of the Enterprise after he averted his future accident. The timeline was restored to normal at the end of the episode, though <em>Strange New Worlds<\/em> has continued to explore time travel\/manipulation with episodes like \u201cTomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow\u201d and \u201cThose Old Scientists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If updating \u201cThe Menagerie\u201d is truly on the table, there\u2019s a limited amount of time for that to happen. <strong><em>Star Trek: Strange New Worlds<\/em><\/strong> season 4 premieres on Paramount+ Thursday, July 23, and like the previous seasons, it will comprise 10 episodes. Then, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-ending-franchise-finale\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Strange New Worlds<\/em> season 5 will wrap up the show<\/a> with a six-episode
