Trachtenberg <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2025\/02\/michelle-trachtenberg-actress-dead-39\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died<\/a> in February 2025 of <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2025\/04\/michelle-trachtenberg-cause-of-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">natural causes due to complications of diabetes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/theater\/features\/rosie-o-donnell-interview-help-michelle-trachtenberg-trump-vendetta-robert-f-kennedy-jr-autism-1236811842\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><em>Variety<\/em><\/a>, O\u2019Donnell called the loss a \u201ctragedy,\u201d and fondly remembered Trachtenberg as a precocious, fast learner. \u201cShe was a real genius child who was able to memorize anything, pick up her lines, you could improvise with her, and she was connected and right there,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was so close to her mother, Lana, and her sister, who\u2019s a ballerina,\u201d she continued, before pointing to addiction as a pressing concern. \u201cThey were a very loving family, and then, you know, she got into drugs and alcohol, I believe, and then I lost touch with her. In the last few years, when she was in pretty bad shape, she would call me and we would talk. I also called her mother to find out what was going on, and her mother told me what was happening, and how long it had been happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>According to O\u2019Donnell, she tried to meet up with Trachtenberg \u201cthree or four times,\u201d but the actress never showed up. \u201cSometimes at restaurants, other times at my house where we\u2019d had someone prepare the whole meal,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. \u201cI would call her and go, \u2018Honey, are you heading over?\u2019 and she\u2019d go, \u2018Was that today?\u2019 She was not in good shape. I didn\u2019t think that she would die. With most people suffering from addiction, their loved ones think that they\u2019ll survive it, but you can die from your addiction to drugs or alcohol, and it happens too often that it must be taken seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Donnell expressed remorse about her inability to reach Trachtenberg. \u201cI wish I could have done more,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. \u201cI tried to help her as much as I could, but she was inaccessible toward the end, and it was tragic. It reminded me of Whitney Houston where everyone knew what was going on, but no one was willing to say something, and often because the people that are closest to you are employed by you when you\u2019re that big of an entity, and they don\u2019t want to lose their job or their money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On that note,\u00a0O\u2019Donnell recalled the moment when Houston was set to appear on her now-defunct program <em>The Rosie O\u2019Donnell Show<\/em>. \u201cWith Whitney, I did say that to her people when she didn\u2019t show up for <em>Cinderella<\/em>,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. \u201cIt was supposed to be a whole hour with her and Brandy, and she didn\u2019t show up just a few minutes before the show went live. I said to them after the show, \u2018This is her legacy, and if she dies it\u2019s on your watch.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a vulnerable moment, O\u2019Donnell shared that addiction has hit her family, too. \u201cI have a daughter who\u2019s addicted,\u201d O\u2019Donnell revealed. \u201cShe\u2019s been sober a year and a half and she\u2019s currently in prison, sadly, but she was born addicted to drugs and never really had a fair shake.
