When she asked who was behind it, he simply referred to it as \u201cthe big one.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe said, \u2018Chris?\u2019\u201d Holland recalled. \u201cAnd I said, \u2018Yeah, Chris Nolan.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, however, there was one major complication. Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day was scheduled to begin around the same time as <em>The Odyssey<\/em>, leaving Holland with a difficult decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s when Zendaya jokingly stepped in.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cZ said, \u2018I\u2019ll leave you if you don\u2019t do <em>The Odyssey<\/em>,\u2019\u201d Holland shared, prompting laughter from everyone in the room.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nolan jokingly thanked Zendaya for the assist, while Holland added, \u201cWell, thank you to her. Here I am.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Making the film happen wasn\u2019t as simple as saying yes. Holland previously told <em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/matt-damon-robert-pattinson-tom-holland-cover-interview-summer-2026\">GQ<\/a><\/em> that he had to ask Sony Pictures executive Tom Rothman to delay production on the next Spider-Man movie so he could join Nolan\u2019s project. Fortunately, Sony agreed, allowing him to take on the role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timing worked out especially well considering Zendaya is also starring in The Odyssey as Athena. The married couple, who tied the knot earlier this year after first getting together in 2021, are now sharing the screen in yet another major franchise while also gearing up for the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in theaters July 31.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zendaya recently opened up to Extra about playing the goddess of wisdom and the inspiration behind one of her promotional looks, which was designed with Athena\u2019s owl in mind.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also reflected on why she has always been considered an old soul.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think it comes from growing up very early and in a very mature environment,\u201d she explained. \u201cWhen you\u2019re a kid working on sets, you\u2019re surrounded by adults all the time, so you grow up pretty quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The actress admitted that stepping onto a Christopher Nolan set for the first time was a little intimidating, but having Holland by her side helped ease those nerves.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was there on my first day, which I was really grateful for,\u201d she said. \u201cSomething like this is such a daunting task. The scale and scope of it are extraordinary, so having that support meant a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for decompressing after long days of filming, Zendaya said there wasn\u2019t much time to dwell on it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was just really busy,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was kind of onto the next thing before I even had time to think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holland had nothing but praise for his wife and costar, saying sharing the experience together is something they still can\u2019t believe happened.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s awesome,\u201d he said. \u201cWe still can\u2019t believe we got to experience this epic movie together, on the same set and on the same days. She\u2019s fantastic in the film. She had a really difficult job, and when people see what she does in the movie, they\u2019ll understand just how challenging it was.
