He later revealed that he was in remission, but admitted that he would have to receive chemotherapy for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite his cancer struggles, his family said that his death was \u201csudden and unexpected\u201d in a heartfelt statement shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DauK0SrT6uJ\/?hl=en\">Instagram<\/a> following his passing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is with immense sadness that the wh\u0101nau [extended family] of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney, Australia,\u201d the statement began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life,\u201d they continued. \u201cThe loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free.
